Cost of Argentina trip??
 

DH & I are looking into possibly going to Argentina for 1-2 weeks late this year - either November or December. We're thinking Buenos Aires and other locations (not sure where yet). How expensive is it there? We don't need a fancy hotel - jsut something basic - & are wondering what we should budget? Thanks for any tips!

Lodging and in country flights are the most expensive ticket items on a trip to Argentina. There are several bed and breakfast and suite hotels which have been well reviewed on this site. Art Suites is a good place to start. The food is very good and not terribly expensive ($15. per person for dinner would be a very conservative estimate...most I had were a lot cheaper). Buenos Aires has relatively inexpensive taxis ($3-4 per trip) and it is a good walkers' city.

Local airfare is the largest cost and getting outrageous for foreigners, but we used Skymiles for the international trips.
The subte is inexpensive ($0.70. US)and easy to use. Taxis are seldom required (ex: to and from airports).
Walks are flat.
We used a remise "World Car" from EZE into Palermo Soho (BoBo Hotel) for $65. pesos ($21.25 US).
We found saltshaker's restaurant recommendations very helpful and you might often find comida/cena and a bottle of Malbec for just over $20. for 2 including tip (we liked Il Matterello in La Boca; El Porteno with avr and Teresa (the real Buenos Aires evening tour); El Trapiche; Juana M; Gardelito and the more expensive Cabernet; Ligure and Hotel BoBo restaurant. Still, in all, small fractions of what you might pay in any US city for similar quality.
For two weeks, I would consider renting an apartment.
Many of the tourist sites are free or quite inexpensive (ex, of course, the fast ferry to Colonia, UR and the "Evita" museum). Don't miss Museo Bellas Artes.
