Copper Canyon - safe for independent travel?
My husband and his brother (both native Spanish speakers) are planning a trip to the Copper Canyon in March 2018. They will be traveling independently and making all their own arrangements.
My basic question is - how safe is independent travel in this area now? I've done a comprehensive search of the Forums and have seen rave reviews of how incredible this area is...but also some alarming statements about danger due to cartel activities. Almost everyone has traveled with a tour group, not on their own.
Can any of you give me some reassurance on this issue, I hope?
