Copper Canyon Mexico by train

Would love to take the Chihuahua al Pacifico railroad through the Copper Canyon. Anyone who has done that, can you tell me about it? What time of year would you suggest it be done?

exciting. Hope it helps.

Went to Copper Cnayon thru Copper Canyon Lodges. Great trip and everything first rate. Go down to Batopilos Canyon and Creel, but try to take train from Los Mochis to Creel not from Chichuaua.Don't go in summer or winter, rather go in spring or fall. It's a very different experience going down to Canyon. Do both if you have more than a week. Have fun. Helen

i went to the copper canyon on my own from los
mochis. buy your ticket at the travel agency in the
hotel santa anita ( be sure to get a round trip
ticket if you intend to return yo los mochis )
everyone told me the best scenery is between los
mochis and creel is the best with not much between
creel and chihuaua so i went to creel .you can book
all kind of trips to the canyon from there and meet
people from all over the world at the same time.

the train ticket (2 class)was 14.00 each way . if
you want to meet people and keep costs down the casa
de hulspedes margarita is the place to go . spring
and fall are best it gets very cold in the winter.
this was one of my favorite trips ever

I am hoping to go to the Copper Canyon in November but am wondering if it will be too cold at that time on the rim? Also would like to go on down to Batopilas, but am wondering if it is worth the 5 hour trip on a steep, winding, dirt road? Any special hotels recommended along the way?

How did you get to Los Mochis? Would it be really difficult if we don't speak Spanish? Hope to hear.

One of the most spectacular areas to visit is an area called the Copper
Canyon an area 3 times larger than the Grand Canyon. It's really a train
trip, with the Chihuahua al Pacifico Railroad, that took Mexico over 100
years to build, something that they were told would be impossible. I
started in Los Mochas and traveled to Chihuahua stopping in three towns
along the way and getting back on the train 24 hours later on the next
day. I used a Santa Anita hotel in Los Mochas that was able to make reservations for
me along the way. I think that the packages tours are TOO expensive. I
want to repeat this trip again. I flew out of Tijuana on Areo Mexico to
lower my costs. I traveled between Christmas and News Years and found the weather was O.K.

Both myself and my traveling partner don't speak fluent spanish but know enough to get by.Don't let the lack of Spanish stop you.
