Ok, I know a few of you have been to BdC. Are there laundry facilities there or do they have a service where they will take the laundry into Puerto Jimenez for you? That will probably be around the time we would need to do laundry. Thanks again all!

Shillmac, best of luck on your Alaskan adventure...how exciting! And we'll miss your great Costa Rican advice til you return on fodors.
Will you post a trip report for Alaska too? I'd love to read it.

Just a little response about lava flows at Arenal...
I have been a few times now, and I find this to be such a fascinating thing! It can come and go from view, though- so it's a perfect opportunity to sit back and relax, watching the mountain.
My first time visiting I went with a group of girls that I had classes with (study abroad). We got one hotel room & all crammed in. We kept waking up all night, peeking out the window to see if we could spot any lava! (no luck)
The next day, though- we spent at Tabacon, and sitting back in those fabulous hot springs, we watched the lava flow all day!! It was awesome, and an experience I'll never forget!
As far as weather, etc- for the time you will be in Heredia & Alajuela, it can get cooler at night.

Just got back from CR last Friday.
Arenal... HOT HOT HOT.
Monteverde, cooler but eevn more humid.
Things I brought (that I learned from tnis site) that mad elife more bearable (=less smelly) FEBREEZE and palstic hooks. This enabled me to hang up my clothes in more stategic places than traditional hangers.
You will love all places. We were lucky and only encountered rain on the coast or at night.
Best to you--let us know how it went!

We were colder than we expected in Monteverde--definitely bring enough pants, one or two long-sleeved things, and a waterproof or resistant windbreaker. We didn't wear shorts at all there.
Shoes: In Monteverde, Arenal, and MA, I've worn either trail running shoes (what I used for hiking) or flip flops everywhere I went. The one thing I brought that I shouldn't have was my regular leather sandals. (And I didn't feel like I needed Tevas or any kind of "water shoe.")
We did a little bit of laundry at Si Como No, and prices seemed decent but then we'd never gotten laundry done at a hotel before.
We LOVE Si Como No! Have a great trip!
