Chilean Entry Fee For US Visitors
 

The State Department's website notes that US visitors to Chile must pay a fee IN US DOLLARS ONLY upon arrival. <BR><BR>See: http://travel.state.gov/chile.html<BR><BR>My friend who works at the Chilean Embassy in New York confirms this. He tells me the fee is $61 and is good for the life of your passport. <BR><BR>I called Delta to see if this fee was included in my airfare, and not only is it NOT included, Delta was not even aware of the existence of the fee and took full details from me to pass along to its customers. <BR><BR>I'm guessing that many others don't know about the fee and that $61 is a good chunk of the US cash most of us carry abroad, so I'm passing this information along.

Thanks for the heads up on that funny fee. Any ideas on when to get the best airfares to Santiago? I'm going in Oct.

The last time we went to Chile we had to pay $20 cash at the airport, and the paper that was put in my passport says it is good until my passport expires. My question is, now that the rates are higher, will i need a different one, or will the current one still be okay? Thanks in advance.

The reciprocity fee stamp remains valid for the life of your passport even if the fee went up. I first went in November 2000 and returned February 2002 and noticed that the fee had gone up, but I didn't have to pay the difference or anything.

the current fee is $65.00 per person. ou need to have it available when you get off the plane because you have to pay it to go through immigration<BR><BR>

The people taking the entry fee do not make change. They expect you to pay with "exact change". I watched a good number of people plunk down four $20 bills to pay the $61 fee, only to get no change back!! Kinda funny how Chile has always had a odd number for their entry fee.<BR><BR>Also, entry into National Parks and such are higher for non-Chileans. And, you guessed it, they don't make change.<BR><BR>All that said, Chile is one of my favorite places. The $61 entry fee over the life of my passport is not too bad.

No credit cards either. Cash only. <BR><BR>(It's retaliation. We do the same thing to Chilean visitors when they arrive into the US.)
