Chichen Itza

I read there is a nightly light show at Chichen Itza, but I can not find any tours that stay for the show. They all leave in the afternoon to return to Cancun. Does anyone know of a tour that stays for the light show or is there a public bus that goes to Chichen Itza and has returns later in the evening. Thanks

To answer your question; I am not aware of any tour buses that stay for the light show. You may try asking at the bus station in either Cancun or Chichen Itza. The easiest way may be to rent a car for the day and drive there.

Having said that, if you find that you have to go out of your way (rent a car, take a bus that leaves very late, etc) to see the light show... don't!

It is mildly interesting for the first 30 seconds (the lights make the pyramids look very nice). After that, it is boooooring.

Usually people stay overnight. There's a hotel (I don't remember the details) next to the ruins.

you can book a tour you get lunch they stop for shopping. you can do this at the resort you are staying at or there are venors on the sidewalks. If you can atay for the light show do so it is great.

To see the night show when we go in Feb 2003 I booked rooms at the Dolores Alba nearby. Very reasonable, restaurant onsite, too. See their website:
www.doloresalba.com

Hi, I have to agree with Becky. In February we did stay at the Doloras Alba and it is lovely and quaint. Food is very good and they have a nice pool. There is also a limestone pool that is fun to explore. There is some great caves within walking distance to this hotel aslo. We just went up by the second class bus, stayed the night, took in the light show, and were at the doors at 8am to tour the ruins. We had over 3 hours before the tour buses came in so it was wonderful. Hire a guide, they are very knowledgable. You can email direct if you need any further info. Wendy
