3 felt about right to us. I could've easily stayed another day too. I think 2 would've felt a bit rushed for all of the activities we wanted to do. Glad the map and pics helped.

RAC Mar 9th, 2014 06:29 PM

Three days I would say is a good number. I could have spent more, but it felt like we did the location justice with that amount of time.

volcanogirl Mar 10th, 2014 08:40 AM

Great, three days it is. Does anyone have a price list for how much the rooms cost? I couldn't find anything online. If anyone remembers can you give me a general idea? Or did you just get a lump sum price for the entire package? I've read that it's a little pricey.

Patty Mar 10th, 2014 09:01 AM

I have a price list from 2009 :) At the time, a 3 night lagoon front cabana package was $936 per person double occupancy in high season or $789 per person in low season. This included roundtrip road/river transfers from Belize City, meals and 2 activities per day. I believe they also have non-package rates but didn't inquire.

volcanogirl Mar 10th, 2014 01:03 PM

Patty, you win the award for most organized Fodorite! That's a little pricier than what I was expecting, but it does include transportation, food, and tours. I was thinking this would be the affordable part of our trip?

I found this updated price list but don't know if the vendor has added on their own costs. It doesn't look like it's directly from LOL itself.

Lagoon front three night package in low season says $883 per person now if I'm reading it right, so almost $600 per day total?

RAC Mar 10th, 2014 03:58 PM

For a garden view in high season 2010 we paid around $500/night for a package deal.

Patty Mar 10th, 2014 05:53 PM

That sounds about right given price increases over the years. You can ask LOL to email you their current price list. I don't quite understand "the affordable part of our trip" question. Where else are you going?

volcanogirl Mar 10th, 2014 08:15 PM

We were thinking of pairing it with Victoria House. I did ask LOL to mail me a price list, but they've never gotten back to me. Sometimes we like to pair a more expensive place with one that's a little more budget friendly but still wonderful, somewhere like Selva Verde, or we'll stay somewhere on points, or get a Groupon deal or something on Luxury Link.

volcanogirl Mar 11th, 2014 03:22 AM

Thanks, RAC! It sounds like you guys really enjoyed the garden cabin, and that would bring down the expenses a bit.

RAC Mar 11th, 2014 05:31 AM

We did save a tidy sum, and there's really no shortage of chances to see/experience the lagoon while there--you see it from the restaurant, all the excursions, etc. We pretty much slept in our casita.

alisa23 Mar 11th, 2014 12:32 PM

I was given this pricing by LOL:

Room Only - Rate includes 9% hotel tax only
Garden View Cabana - US$231.00 per Cabana per Night
Lagoon Front Cabana - US$336.00 per Cabana per Night

A 4 Night Package in 1 x Garden View Cabana would run at US$3,288.60 total for two adults and 2 kids

A 4 Night Package in 1 x Lagoon Front Cabana would run at US$3,704.60 total

I understand you don't have two kids. Unfortunately I don't have the pricing without the kids :)

volcanogirl Mar 11th, 2014 06:01 PM

RAC, that's true - we didn't have a view in Tortuguero either, and we loved it there.

volcanogirl Mar 11th, 2014 07:27 PM

Thank you, Alisa - wow, there is quite a price difference. They've never gotten back to me on prices so that helps a lot. Did you end up staying there?

Patty Mar 11th, 2014 08:38 PM

Gotcha! I've found the better jungle lodges in Belize to be fairly expensive. We prefer to splurge on the inland portion as the location and quality of guiding are very important to us and go lower budget on the caye/coastal portion if necessary.

alisa23 Mar 11th, 2014 09:10 PM

No, we have not stayed. Will go in March of 2015. But not sure if it will be Lamanai or CC

Yes, quite a price difference! For us it doesn't make sense to get a package I don't think. But your price for the package should be at least 30% lower.

volcanogirl Mar 16th, 2014 03:10 PM

Cool, good to know. I'll try to contact them again to get prices. I think we would like to go to Ambergris afterward. Can we fly straight from Lamanai to Ambergris, or do we have to have back to Belize City first?

Patty Mar 16th, 2014 07:02 PM

You can charter directly from the airstrip at Lamanai to Ambergris. Or I think Tropic Air may fly from Orange Walk where the boat ride starts and ends. From Orange Walk, it's about an hour drive to Belize City.

RAC Mar 16th, 2014 09:45 PM

Remember that you get essentially a free wildlife tour on the boat ride/drive back to BZE. It was on our way back that we saw the jabiru nest.

volcanogirl Mar 17th, 2014 03:55 AM

That's a good point. Do most people go via river both ways? How long is the river portion and how long is the driving part?

Patty Mar 17th, 2014 08:09 AM

About an hour by road followed by approx 1.5 hour by boat and then the reverse for the return. We arrived by boat and departed by road because we headed to Chan Chich next. One person in our party took a charter flight back to BZE to connect to her flight home. The boat ride is spectacular though could be very wet if it's raining.
