Caye Caulker or Tranquility Bay on Ambergis???

We love to snorkel and fish... like off the beaten path... non touristy.. but good food.. is this possible? So, if you had to choose... Tranquility Bay on Ambergis.. or something on Caye Caulker.

TB is the only place on either one that has the reef near the beach but it is a ways from town.

I hear good things about the snorkeling at Tranquility Bay, but we haven't stayed there. We loved staying on Ambergris at Victoria House. I would expect TB to be quiet given how far it is from town. VH was a nice, quiet property. I liked staying at a quiet property but having the option to go into town for all the restaurant choices.

Tranquility Bay if you want seclusion and a focus on fishing and snorkeling from shore; the only eating options are the little restaurant/bar over the water or whatever you prepare yourselves. Snorkeling is good, flyfishing was terrific and there is a neighbor boy fishing genius who is happy to help. Caulker is a better choice if you want a variety of eating options and lodging options in different price ranges. Both are great!

My photos with blog and travelogue links on the main page of each collection are below in case you're interested - all my recommendations are embedded there. Happy trails! http://www.flickr.com/photos/staceyholeman/collections

Thanks.. Hard choice.... Is it possible to take a cab to eating options from TB?

Not really. It's about half an hour by boat and there isn't a regular service of any kind. You can pay for a private boat ride or pay a smaller fee to go in and out when they go for supplies or to pick up other guests. I don't know if they go at night, though - you'd have to ask.

We really enjoyed it but the prices have gone up 20 or 25% since we were there last summer plus our next trip will be in March and the high season rates are significantly more. $99/night for the Budget Traveler's Room was a real splurge for us. When we head back to Belize next March we're splitting just over 2 weeks between southern Belize (ReefCI and Hickatee Cottages) and Colinda Cabañas on Caulker. Can't wait!!

No, spend some time on gmaps to learn the area.

Keep in mind the info posted above has nothing to do with TB or Ambergris

Katzgar -
If you are referring to my posts with that last comment (and not your gmaps comment), t he only part in either of my posts that doesn't apply specifically to TB or Caulker is the brief mention of ReefCI and Hickatee at the end. The "Budget Travelers Room" is the 1 we stayed in at Tranquility Bay - I should have been more clear about that.
