Carry-on snorkeling gear?

I've leaving for Belize in a couple days (from the US), and am wondering if one can include a snorkel and mask in carry-on luggage. I checked the TSA web site and it makes NO mention of snorkeling or diving gear. I emailed my question to them, but expect to get a response about this time next year. Anyone have any insights, especially now that the US is at "Code Orange"? Many thanks in advance!

I always put my snorkel and dive equipment in my checked luggage simply because it is so cumbersome and bulky and I want room for more valuable things (jewelry and make up :) ) in my carry on.

If you desire to put it in your carryon, I can't think of any reason that would be a problem security-wise.

I went to Belize last summer and put my snorkeling gear in my carry-on, with no questions asked.

We always carry on our snorkel gear and my husband carries his dive regulator on-board. We've done this as recently as November. Sometimes they will ask him to open the case for a quick check, but he's never had any more trouble than that. The checkpoint inspectors are used to seeing dive equipment, in fact they usually know which flights are leaving and for where. We've been asked for instance, "are you on the 8am flight to Cozumel?".
