Car rental needed in PV?

I also plan on going to PV in late Feb. Possibly renting in Conchas Chinas (5 min drive to town). Is it recommended to rent a car or can I just taxi around while I am there (for one week only)? Also, If I do rent a car...should I buy the insurance the rental companies always try to sell which is not necessary in some places if you rent with Amer Exp?

Hi,
If it were me and I was renting in Conchas Chinas and just wanted to stay in and around town, I'd just pay for taxis - they're cheap and plentiful, and once you get downtown, walking around is easy and pleasant.
Have a great time -- if you do rent something, could you post a review? I've always wanted to rent, but never have!

i think a car would be more hassle than convenience. just taxi around, they are plentiful and very reasonably priced.

maybe a car for one day if you wanted to drive outside town and head north or south along the coast?

We go to PV every year and have never rented a car. Like the above poster said, there are plenty of taxis and they are not expensive. The bus system is even cheaper(maybe 80cents?)and goes everywhere. Parking is a HUGE problem and traffic can be "interesting". I thnk a car would be more trouble than it is worth. The views from the C. Chinas are stunning--please post a trip report when you return!
