The question is : Is it worth it ?... Going to Cancun !
An experienced traveler and forum participant such as yourself should have all the necessary information to answer in an explicit and informative fashion.

.

I for one, have been on countless occasions, and if you are planning a one week all inclusive with the family, then YES please do... Depending where you stay ( lagoon side or ocean side of the peninsula), you will be enchanted by the most beautiful beaches and turquoise waters in North America and the Carribbean. Actually, No matter where you stay, First timers are always impressed by itís natural beauty and many other attributes such as, restaurants, shopping, ruins ( in Cancun), day excursions to several islands, boat trips, fishing, submarine dives, markets and way more...The food is always a treat...

I just wondered about the "dying" part. If that had some significance. As you well know I have never been to Cancun.

If you tell us why you are dying to go there, we may be able to better assess whether it is "worth it."

Probably can't grasp why anyone would ever choose Cancun over PV. Although, speaking of dirty beaches, this might be 1 reason:

I mean, who would want to swim with the sharks when you can swim with dead animals and fecal matter.

Yes, if Eric can tell us what about Cancun has piqued his interest, then we can probably give better advice about whether or not it is worth going.

Locals are fed up with the so called Aguas Negras, ( Black water) that spews out of manhole covers and also from the overflow of rainwater from the river to the public beaches... bringing down with it, anything and everything that happens to be in it’s path.
It is a serious health issue that many wished would just go away.
We were in the area for 5 months last winter, and although did not live through a heavy downpour, we most certainly did notice what was left behind... very sad as PV is a great destination, you just don’t want to swim there.

Just an anecdote about the rain in August - we went to Acapulco on our honeymoon (August 1973). It rained so much one day that we had to take a taxi to get across the street to a restaurant. (But it was sunny other days - hit and miss - and maybe the drainage system has been improved!)
