Cancun or Puerto Vallarta?

Has anyone been to the Casa Magna in either Cancun or Puerto Vallarta? Would love feedback.

Also, hotel aside, would you recommend Cancun or PV?

I was at the Casa Magna Marriott in Puerto Vallarta one night (Alaska Airline put us up there when our flight couldn't leave). It is a huge, clean, Mexican-theme hotel. I'm sure much like Marriott resorts elsewhere. It didn't do much for me because I stay down in the older part of town in smaller independent hotels.

Having said that... the town of Puerto Vallarta still retains its authentic local charm and character. But Cancun has better sand and water at the beach (since it's the Caribbean not the Pacific coast).

WE JUST RETURNED FROM PV LAST NIGHT. IT WAS AWESOME!

PV OR CANCUN?? IT DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU WANT. CANCUN IS LIKE LAS VEGAS WITH BEAUTIFUL WATER AND NO CASINOS. IT IS A PARTY PLACE. VERY COMMERCIALIZED. PV IS MORE AUTHENTIC. VERY LUSH TROPICAL SETTING WITH BEAUTIFUL BLUE WATER. I DEFINETLY RECOMMEND THE CAMINO REAL. IT IS NOT IN THE HOTEL ZONE. IT HAS A PRIVATE BEACH. WE WILL RETURN. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR NEED ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON RESTAURANTS, SEND ME AN E-MAIL.

Margo, A wonderful response but WHY ARE YOU SHOUTING??
Shouting is when you communicate in a forum with UPPER CASE text only and is considered rude (and you are guaranteed to have others eventually point this out to you). I don't mean to be rude myself, just a tip on etiquette.
Adios!
Have stayed at both hotels over the past few years. Both hotels are built along the same style, except PV is half the size. Both are great and meet Marriott Resort high standards.

Choice is more of what are you looking for? Cancun is very commercial, a large hotel zone with plenty of restaurants and discos, with a lot of standard American style chains. Beaches are beautiful with white sand that get everywhere. Water is very warm and crystal blue.

P.V. has grown in recent years and is catching Cancun in commercialization. Beaches & Hotels are excellant with most hotels catering to resort style (Westin & Marriott are beside each other and are great). Beach is a courser sand and the ocean being the Pacific is rougher. P.V. has great restaurants with a more entrepreneur style and catering to you. Some of the best sunsets are seen here. As you are not on a lagoon the region is more tropical and the port has a great marina with shops and restaurants. The beach vendors are also fun to barter with. P.V. is more authentic Mexico and has more culture.

Cancun also tends to be a little more pricey than P.V.

Personnally, have been to Cancun twice, Cabo once, and P.V. about 5 times. I prefer P.V. over Cancun but just looking for an economical vacation to relax.

Inronically, we leave to Cancun tomorrow. Reason traveling with couple who has never been to Mexico, worried about it and wants somthing more commercial.
