Cancun - Merida and Hotels...

Hi,
I'm flying to Cancun from London in 2 weeks and I'll be staying Downtown at the Radisson Hacienda..does anyone know anything about this hotel?
Also, my friend and I would like to try and get to Merida for a night or two...Does anyone know how long this would take to get to by bus? Are the buses a good way to travel?

Many Thanks.

Melissa,
You DO know that this hotel is not on or near the beach, correct?

Hi Nancy,
Yes I know we're staying downtown and that we'll need to get the bus or walk to the beach...that's fine by us.
Thanks,
M.

We split up our trip to Merida, staying a couple of nights in Chichen Itza on the way, so I can't say how long the trip would be. However, I think the bus is a good way to go. There are some really good first class bus lines in Mexico so it can be quite comfortable. I've rented cars and driven down the coast, but it seemed easiest enough to take a bus in the interior.

The bus is an excellent way to get to Merida. The best lines (luxury or "lujo") are UNO or ADO-GL. Both services take under 4 hours to reach Merida. The Cancun bus station is in a bit of a mess due to major construction but you won't be there long!

Thanks very much for your feedback guys. We're flying off to Cancun next Monday and I can't wait!
One other thing, do you know how easy it is to organize a swim with the dolphins? Also, do you think we're likely to pay more if we leave it till we get there, rather than pre booking with a company now?

We are going to Cancun in Feb 2003. I booked us into Hotel Dolores Alba in Chichen Itza area so we can view the night show there. It is very affordable, 380 pesos (approx. 43US)/nt.
They have a sister property in Merida.
I cannot give a review, as we have not been yet, but these hotels were given praise (partly on their low cost) on Fodor's travel website forum.
