Cancun is it safe?

Me and my fiance are thinking about going to Cancun in September for labor day weekend. I was just wondering if Cancun still a safe place to visit. I would love to go but my mother is been scaring me with all this urban legends about tourist getting kill and kidnapped by the drug cartels in Cancun. Please can anyone help me out or even maybe point me out to some websites where I may be able to get some info.

Thanks

Fine in tourist enclaves downtown can get dodgy

monitor travel.state.gov Mexico yucatantoday.com

insuremytrip.com Patriot for me odds are great u will be fine

I do not rent a car there too many shakedowns

cops are all corrupt...not to mention the thieves

Still GREAT safe in tourist areas.

Just search this forum for "cancun safety". There are many threads. Cancun is safe (as far as the horrible drug-related crimes and corruption). As mention, downtown Cancun may have some questionable areas, as any city could

oops..hit submit too soon...

Anyway, as I was saying, Cancun may have some "dodgy" (in qwovadis words) areas, as any city would. But the tourist area with all the hotels is safe.

Of course it's safe!!! Problems in Mexico happen only in the North side! Mostly because of the traffic to the US.

Cancun as touristic place is safe.

just go and chill, enjoy the beach and sun!!! =)

Cancun is a safe tourist destination. I challenge your Mom to find one single factual/actual story of a tourist who was "kidnapped and kiilled" in Cancun.

Puh-lease. Ask your mom to show you even ONE news report of a tourist getting kidnapped or killed in that city. The crime rate there is super-low, especially considering all the opportunity thieves would have to rob dumb drunk people with pockets full of pesos. Here's some ammo for you:
