Cancun in March--possible to avoid Spring Breakers?
 

My husband and I are pregnant and wanted like to book a trip to Mexico in late February when I'll be around 20 weeks. We'd like to stay at the Marriott Casa Magna, but they are booked for February so we are now looking at the second weekend in March. We don't want to be stuck in the middle of a spring break atmosphere (especially since we are expecting!)... has anyone been to Cancun in March and managed to avoid these crowds? We're not planning to frequent the clubs or anything but don't really want to deal with it while at the hotel. Thanks for the insight.

Just book an upscale hotel/resort. Spring breakers are usually at the cheaper holiday package party kind of places.

Would you say the Marriott Casa Magna is upscale enough? We can't afford much more than their rate... just worried that the spring break crowd can cram several into a room and therefore manage to afford a nice hotel.

I'd think so. I'm no expert, and my experience is 100% is Puerto Vallarta, but I've never seen spring break types at either the locally-owned budget Mexican hotels or at the more expensive places (which yes I would consider the Marriott).

They seem more to go for package deals, all-inclusives, in a cheap-ish price range.

Hopefully someone with experience at this specific place in Cancun will chime in and can reassure you.

It's a very nice hotel, walked through it last summer while it was still being refurbished after Hurricane Wilma, and I have to say it has one of the most beautiful lobbies/ bar areas ever.

Fly into Cancun and then head a little further south to Playa del Carmen and the Riviera Maya...it is only 20-25 minutes ride...and the breakers stay in Cancun!!

The Cancun Hilton has a "No Spring Breakers" policy. We stayed there a few years ago in March and I would go back again.

I would agree with flying into Cancun then heading south to the mayan riveria. We will be there the first week in April and have been told the college kids won't be a problem.

My family has been to Casa Magna twice during spring break....never been a problem with your typical "spring break" crowd. As someone above mentioned they will be staying more budget friendly. Casa Magna is a beautiful place, and there is restaurant and pool/beach access to connecting JW Marriott. Sometimes the music around the pool can get a bit loud, but you'll find that at most places. They have a lot of activities to try and get you involved. Also a daily fashion with swimwear that is fun to see.
If you and your husband are up for a great romantic restaurant and are a bit adventuresome head downtown to "La Habichuela" I always recommend it to anyone going to Cancun. The address is Margaritas 25 and you can get there by bus, or cab. Great atmosphere with indoor or garden dinning. They have a website www.lahabichuela.com Give it a try. When you get off the bus and walk a few block you'll see lots of shops and usally a street fair. It's more of a residential area. Fun to see!
Kind of gotten off track. But you will be happy with Casamagna!
