Cancun is like being in an American city. All franchize restaurants and entertainment. A lot of very young people out of control.

Cancun is very Americanized, and yes there are many franchized restaurants if you choose to eat at them. Cancun also has the most beautiful beaches, spectacular hotels, very accommodating and friendly people, reasonably priced hotels/meals and many options of things to do or not do. If you wish to stay away from the club scene, there are many family orientated hotels where there are no "out of control young people". Regarding weather, our family has gone to Cancun 3 times in the summer season. Generally we have found the earlier part of summer to be the best. As the summer progresses the waves get rougher and you do verge on hurricane season. We have never experienced outright rain in Cancun, "spitting" perhaps, but it does downpour in the afternoons inland ie. at the ruins.

Latika,
Dee gave you very good information.
The last time I went was in July, and the weather was beautiful with no rain the entire time.
There are many wonderful things to do and see in the area and all up and down the coast. Have fun!

Summer Cancun Jul 3rd, 2002 08:18 AM

Went there in July...hot and very humid...went there in August...hot and more humid...went there in September...hurrican blew through and it rained like crazy, high winds and surf too high and dangerous to get in. I'd say go the earliest in the summer that you can. The closer to September you get, the more unpredictable the weather gets and it can change in a snap.
