Cancun Hotels
Have been to Tulum, and Bahamas. We want to take our kids to Cancun this summer. Ages 21, 20, 19,16. Which hotel would be the best. We want a very nice hotel, on beach, pools, pretty grounds. These were in a special from Funjet: Westin Regina Cancun, Continental Villas Plaza, Reef Club Yalmakan. Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Have you considered the Palace Resorts. They are all-inclusive resorts, and you can eat, drink, and play at all 4 Palace Resorts (Sun Palace, Cancun Palace, Beach Palace, and the Moon Palace). I stayed at the Sun Palace and very much enjoyed it. It has a very nice beach. I also stayed at the Cancun Palace, which we loved as well. The Moon Palace is more lavish and not even near the "hotel strip", but definately worth a trip there, they have a beautiful pool, which makes up for the grassy small beach they have, and their food is outstanding. The Beach Palace is small and has a small beach, we spent a day playing there and found the hotel staff to be very interested in making sure we were having a good time. I just can't say enough about the Palace Resorts. For 8 days we paid $975.00pp, which included all food, drinks (alcohol and non-alcohol), airfare, hotel, non motorized water sports, taxes and gratuities, 2 excursions of our choice, transportation from and to the airport to the hotel, and we could eat and drink, and use the facilites at the other Palace Resorts (so we really had about 9 or 10 resturants to eat at for free). As far a the grounds go I think the Cancun Palace, they also have a miniature golf course at the hotel, and a very nice beach.

The Westin's beach has completely eroded away! I was just at Club Med, next door to the Westin and the waves were crashing against a concrete bulkhead, the beach is almost gone.

Melynda - My husband and I just returned on 5/17 from a week in Cancun (we stayed at the Hyatt Caribe). If you look at a map you will see that Cancun is an upside down "L" shaped island. All the hotels on the long part of the "L" have black flagged beaches - this means the under tow and waves are so rough that you are swimming at your own risk. No one we saw went in the water beyond their waist. Either try and stay on the short part of the "L" (Fiesta Americana) or go to Isla Mujeres. However, since you have young adults for children, may I suggest strongly towards the Fiesta as this hotel is closer to town where all the action is for the children. I have a slew of fabulous 5 star restaurants I could recommend as well. E-mail me directly for more information. Addios!

ditto on the beachs. Would suggest you stay at any of the older hotels on the bay side (presidente, Quality Inn Etc. The Carribean ocean is much calmer during the summer--but the great shallow swinning beaches are always on the bay side. Be sure to vistit Isla Mujeres for a great beach (Norde Beach) but a bit slow on the party scene which you kids might be more interested in.

AM A AAA TRAVEL AGENT AND AHVE BEEN TO CANCUN TWICE. A GREAT HOTEL IS THE GRAN CARIBE. ITS ON THE BAYSIDE(CANCUN IS SHAPED LIKE A "7"-ITS ON THE TOP SIDE, THE WATER IS MUCH CALMER. I HAVE SENT FAMILY AND CLIENTS HERE. I WATCHED IT BEING BUILT 5 YRS AGO, ITS BEEN OPERATIONAL SINCE 1997, SO ITS A NEW HOTEL. THE TILE FLOOR IS BEAUTIFUL, AS IS THE LOBBY WITH IT ATRIUM. ALL ROOMS HAVE A WATER VIEW-RQST THE OCEAN SIDE FOR THE BETTER VIEW. THE HOTEL OFFERS AN ALL INCLUSIVE RATE-YOU CAN BOOK THIS FOR APPRX 50.00 PER PERSON PER DAY IF YOU WANT TO. YOU CAN DO A PARTIAL ALL INCLUSIVE, YOU MUST BOOK 48HRS AT A TIME. I THOUGHT THE FOOD WAS PRETTY INEXPENSIVE, SO YOU DONT NEED TO DO AN <BR>ALL INCLUSIVE. THE BEACH IS PRIVATE HERE ALSO. MOST OF THE ACTION GOES ON AROUND THE POOL, WHICH HAS A SWIM UP BAR AND LOUNGE CHAIRS IN THE WATER. IT ALSO IN A GREAT LOCATION-BTWN DOWNTOWN(OLD MEXICO CHARM AND BARGAINS) AND THE HOTEL ZONE STRIP OF ACTION (STARTS AT THE CORNER OF THE "7"-HARD ROCK, ALL STAR CAFE, ETC... HOPE YOU HAVE A GREAT TIME IN CANCUN. I LOVED MY TRIPS! IF YOU ARE INTO THE HISTORY OF THE MAYAN CULTURE, DONT MISS THE CHICHEN-ITZA TOUR.

If I were you I would blow off Cancun all together and go to Playa del Carmen, a much smaller and friendlier place. Your kids will be able to walk all over the place without worry and they will probably enjoy the crowd and beach better than Cancun. PDC has everything Cancun does, but on a smaller, more manageable scale. Plus their money will go farther in Playa. There are nightclubs and bars with music at night, with none of the nonsense and danger associated with the Cancun night scene. The scene on Fifth Avenue is nothin but fun. There are a number of AI resorts nearby.

Playa Del Carmen, absolutely!....In my opinion, Cancun is so Americanized, so Miami Beach...Which is OK if you want Miami Beach....But if you want Mexico, try Playa!...
