Cancun car rental

Anyone know the best practice when renting a car. Should we pick up at the Cancun airport or take advantage of one of the reputable companies in PDC. Plan on going to Puerto Morelos

Are you staying in PDC and doing a day trip to PM?

If so, consider renting a taxi for the day. It only costs about $50 to $60 and you can relax and have cervezas and not worry about driving.

If you want a car to tool around in while you're there, wait until you get to PDC. But, beware, driving and finding a parking spot in PDC is next to impossible - very crowded!

As cheap as taxi fares are, we rarely rent a car.

I will be staying in Puerto Morelos. Plan on doing the tourist thing as well as having access to PDC and surrounding towns.

If you are staying in PM, then a car would be the way to go.
I would take a taxi to PM from the airport to PM and see if you can arrange to have the car delivered to you or if not, pick it up in PDC and go on back to PM.
Driving in town in both PDC and Cancun is REALLY a hassle that is almost beyond belief, and not for the faint of heart. Parking is at a premium, and the taxi drivers whiz around at breakneck speeds.
What we usually do when we go to Akumal is plan to spend a few days with a car and do our day trips on those days, and the rest of the time, take taxis or hang out at the beach.
You can rent a taxi and driver for the entire day for about the same as what a rental car costs.
