Cancun and PDC

We can't decide whether to stay in Cancun or Playa Del Carmen (hope I spelled it right). So we thought we would split 4 nights Le Meridien in Cancun and 4 nights at the Royal Hideaway. Any comments on these
choices?

It really depends on what you enjoy....Personally, I equate Cancun with Miami Beach....
We love Playa Del Carmen and the Royal Hideaway is paradise....We spent 10 days there last November and can hardly wait to go back....It's a laid-back elegant resort with superb food and great service....

Have a great time... I can't even begin to compare Cancun and PDC. They are nothing alike. If you like going to another country and finding the exact same thing that you'd find here in the States, plus a couple thousand young Americans just getting plastered, then Cancun's the place for you. But I prefer PDC where I can relax, have fun and meet the most interesting locals and tourists!

In spite of the rather negative responses, Cancun is a destination that has a lot to offer. If you are not sure whether you would prefer the busy vacation city of Cancun or the more laid back, cosmopolitan, small-town atmosphere of PDC, I think you are quite right to try both. You will see a little more of the Mayan Riviera and have a much better idea of where you want to stay the next time - and there will be a next time, like the rest of us who read this forum you'll get hooked.

We stayed at the Le Meridien in February and were very impressed with the resort. This was our second visit to Cancun and we stayed at the Fiesta Americana Condesa. Although we loved the Condesa, Le Meridien was tops in our books. Its a small boutique hotel with excellent service and a beautiful pool and beach area. This will be the only place we go back to in Cancun.

Linda from NJ: Did you go on your trip yet? I was thinking about doing the exact thing you mentioned ... 4 nights at LeMeridien and 4 at Royal Hideaway so I'm curious as to what your impressions and recommendations would be. Would be traveling with my husband (we're both early 40s; no kids).
