Campeche anyone?
I land in Cancun and I am thinking of bussing it from Cancun to Campeche in late June for 3 days, then back to Playa del Carmen. Has anyone been to Campeche in the last few yrs? There is little info on this forum on the city.
I have a great hotel for about $30 a night that I stay in in Merida, but I am finding little in that price range in Campeche. Has anyone seen or stayed at the Hotel Maria Isabel? It looks good at 460 pesos but I can not find any reviews online.
Will it be terribly hot/humid in late June? As bad as Merida?
Also it looks like ADO does not go from Campeche to Playa del Carmen, I'd have to go through Cancun and switch buses. But I swear I have seen bus signs in the Playa De
Del Carmen ADO station for buses to Campche. Any idea?

We stayed there last February for one night en route from Palenque to Tulum. Lovely town, with architectural heritage from its city walls and fortifications to the brightly colored buildings in the town center. We stayed at the Hotel Castelmar, which is reasonable but more than $30-40 per night.
The city itself is probably worth a day, but there are good day trips as well.

Hi edm3!
I've never been to the Calakmul ruins, but I know that is sometime overcrowded. What I highly recommend you, is to visit Uxmal (half way from Merida to Campeche). Uxmal is one of my favorite ruins in whole Mexico, as the architecture is so wonderful and the site's very quiet! Actually this site is the most important of the Puuc Route (which is the name of the architecture style). On weekend's nights they also do play of light with music, it's wonderful (however, better speak Spanish because the story isn't narrated in English)! The entrance fee includes the show!
Campeche is a lovely city, don't forget that every hour (between 9:00-12:00 and 17:00-20:00) a bus tour starts at Plaza de la Independencia. Tulukná Casa de Artesanias is a great place for shopping. And my last recommendation: try the 'cochinita pibil' which is the main traditional dish of the Yucatan peninsula
Hope you'll enjoy your trip!

I also stayed at the Hotel Castelmar and liked it very much. Campeche is a cute town with colorful buildings and a protective wall around it. But I wouldn't want to spend more than a day. Merida has a lot more going for it, in my opinion.
