Camino Real near Tikal, Guatemal
If you stayed at this hotel in Guatemala I would like to know what was your experience and I also need any contact information for this place. Are there any other interesting places to stay near Tikal. We are looking for place where we can do some walking or hiking, birding and just be in a quiet place. Our budget is around $100 excluding meals.

I stayed in Flores which has frequent early-morning shuttles to Tikal and a larger selection of restaurants and accommodations. The place I stayed was the pension Dona Goya (with a large "DG" sign) in Flores ... very clean, family-run place. Being in Flores would also allow you to walk around at night, it is a small town on an island and very manageable. Have fun!

My wife and I stayed there for one night on a whim after visiting Tikal and were very happy. We didn't leave the hotel so I don't know about birding and hiking nearby, but I am sure plenty is available. It may cost more than $100 dollar a night however. I don't remember.

I just visit Tikal and I stayed at a beautiful Jungle Lodge called Chiminos Island Lodge, where you can hike and watch birds and wildlife. The hotel include in its price delicious meals and had luxurious boungalows situated in front of the lagoon. You can watch its website at www.chiminosisland.com. <BR>
