camino real cancun

Considering an Apple vacation to Cancun in May - has anyone stayed at the Camino Real Cancun in the Non-Tower portion?? Any thoughts? We want a top-notch place with good beach (but not the Ritz). Any suggestions most appreciated!

Carrie,

See my post under Cancun ??? Hotels. The rooms in the tower and the non-tower are pretty much the same decor wise. The advantage to the Tower is a better view of the ocean, private check-in, a 2nd free happy hour and free breakfast. We thought the extra money was worth it. All of the rooms at the hotel have a water view either pool or ocean. The service was excellent. The resort is very laid back and elegant. I would highly recommend it; however, it depends on what your looking for. If you want a busy, noisy resort or plush rooms, it won't be for you. Hope this helps.

This is NOT a top notch place. Try the Fiesta Americana Coral Beach instead! Very CALM water, if that is what you prefer!

Mike,

One of Camino Real's beaches is adjacent to the Fiesta Americana (same beach) Sorry, in MHOP, I went in that hotel and to me it was way too busy and crowded.

Ahhhhh, but what a difference a hotel makes! Of course the Fiesta was too busy and crowded: EVERYBODY was checking OUT of the Camino Real (including myself) and checking INTO that beautiful place! Again, the Camino is old, musty and dumpy (and I was in the "new" tower)!! Of course, the Ritz is TOPS and even better (rolling surf, though), but the Poster did not want to stay there!

wow, I appreciate your comments but I hope someone else responds to help break this clear difference of opinion between mike and lulu! I am now more confused than ever!

To Carrie:
Check out www.royalresorts.com
Although they are timeshare units you can rent them by calling the toll free number. They are beautiful resorts, 5 star. We stayed at the Royal Mayan and had an awesome time. I would recommend either the Royal Islander or Royal Caribbean as they are newer, but you would not go wrong staying at any one of the three Royal resorts.
