Calm ocean in Cancun

Dear fellow travellers! We've never been in Cancun, and my understanding is, the beaches are not to fit for sweeming in the most of the resorts: our friends went to Moon Palace, to Fiesta Americana Condesa - all are saying, the waves are to high. Is there a beach in Cancun or Playa, there waters are calm and safe for sweeming as on Carribean islands?<BR>Thank you.

Yes there is a beach trhat has no waves, it is calm, warm and turquoise. This is the beach by the Intercontinental Presidente hotel, there are several other hotels in that area but I stayed at the Intercontinental. The water is absolutely perfect, the hotel is an older hotel as a matter of fact I think it was one of the first ones built in Cancun therefore it has the best beach. The reason there are no waves I believe is because it is protected by the Isle Mulheres. I went to see other hotels in Cancun and the waves were tremendous, not good for swimming, they looked very dangerous. If you look at a map of Cancun it is shaped like a '7' this part of Cancun is on the top the bar going across.

Poster &quot;Don &quot; is right about the top part of Cancun has calm beaches , some of them are dead calm in that areas...quite a few hotels in that stretch you can choose from .Now the longer stretch of the 7 shape of Cancun , all have some to very BIG waves . Playa Del Carmen and those nearby areas in general -beaches are much calmer ,very swimable and snorkeling too ,plenty of hotels now on that side all the way to Tulum .You would want to stay in Playa Del Carmen if you like to be near to a somewhat REAL town...
