cabo whale watching

We plan on going to Cabo to whale watch. Is Late March a good time to go or would February be better? Also, I have read that you need to wear warm clothes when you go out on the boat. Any advice would be appreciated.

Haven't gone out seeking whales but we see them often while fishing in Cabo, sometimes breeching close to the boat. For sure they are there in February, but at some point they turn around and head back north so late March might be near the end of the cycle, not really sure. In Feb you'll also miss the mass hysteria of college kids on spring break.

I have read that you need to wear warm clothes when you go out on the boat.

Maybe a pull-over or light fleece for the ride out in the morning, which can be chilly, but we usually are in shorts and T-shirts after the sun comes up and the boat slows down. If you are in a small open boat (panga) you'll need more protection than if you're in a larger boat with a cabin, where you can get out of the wind. Larger boats are the norm.

Read on a site that whale watching season is Nov through Jan. We are going in early Feb, and hope we aren`t too late.

Interesting ... I entered "cabo whale watching season" and got back many links saying December thru March or early April. On several November trips we haven't seen whales (though we weren't really searching for them either, just fishing) ... here are two links from the top of the Google search...

We've been there several times in mid to late February and there were many whales so you are probably OK. I think this is probably the peak season for Cabo whale watching.

To Amparo, if you look at the two links you'll see one of the boats is an open catamaran ... this is the kind of boat where you'd need to "wear warm clothes" because it's open to the wind and you'll get chilled on an early AM ride out to the whaling grounds.

Cabo whale-watching season runs from January through March. February should be better than late March as some whales would have already left for the trip back north.
