Ugh! Going in December. Hope everything is up and running again. Saw people in shelters. The towns people live in areas with no storm drains. Hope they get help getting back to their homes.

Momddtravel2 Sep 15th, 2014 09:48 AM

Yes, have been tracking this... hoping the damage is minimal.

suze Sep 15th, 2014 11:03 AM

Oh nooooo... I'm getting over to my friends on the Trip Advisor Cabo San Lucas forum and see what's up.

Marianna Sep 16th, 2014 01:47 AM

I have been watching this as well and from what I have read, there is substantial damage. I will also try to find out more on TA.

Marianna Sep 16th, 2014 02:09 AM

There is a lot of information on TA.

It seems the Hilton is quite damaged. We have reserved a condo at Casa del Mar so we are trying to find out how bad the situation is there.

Hope everyone is safe.

It's a front page story in the Seattle Times today with several shocking photos. Man they got hit bad!!! The damage is extensive. Especially in the surrounding colonias (local Mexican neighborhoods) where the construction and infrastructure is modest (at best) to begin with.

While I feel for the fancy hotel chains and tourists who had their vacation ruined, my heart truly goes out the poor local people. Fortunately, so far at leas,t no deaths have been reported.

I didn't follow closely, but saw somewhere that US tourists will be evacuated. Such a beautiful place, hope they will rebuild it soon.

Evacuated how? Magic carpet?

suze Sep 17th, 2014 08:14 AM

The airport at La Paz.

Momddtravel2 Sep 17th, 2014 08:15 AM

Anyone have a good link to news there? I am having a hard time finding accurate news.

MichelleY Sep 17th, 2014 08:37 AM

I am on a Pueblo Bonito facebook feed and getting reports. I am to go in early December, I think......

suze Sep 17th, 2014 08:42 AM

I am reading the Cabo San Lucas forum on Trip Advisor.

<Evacuated how? Magic carpet?>

They are using military and commercial planes out of the Los Cabos airport according to the article in the Times.

NewbE Sep 17th, 2014 09:50 AM

They are now, but they weren't when that fact was posted, because the storm had closed the airport. Planes can either fly or they can't...the US govt possesses no magic, nor should tourists get the idea that it does.

suze Sep 17th, 2014 10:03 AM

That's why they were using the La Paz airport, like I said.
