CABO BEACH CONFUSION
 

Need some help understanding the beach situation in cabo. Is Medano Beach safe for swimming- specifically if anyone is familiar with VIlla del Palmar beach resort? Is tlhe hilton beach better? Thanks for any help

Check this map ... http://www.loscabosguide.com/maps/cslmap.htm ... the bottom, where it says Pacific Ocean, is the so-called Solmar Beach and it gets the full swell from the Pacific, so often has large waves and heavy undertow. A couple of people a year get dragged out and drown.

To the right (not shown) is Lover's Beach, which is right under the arch and reachable via water taxi. Good snorkeling and swimming on the bay side, rougher on the ocean side.

Above this, where it says "Medano Beach (Swimming Beach)" is where it's protected and safe to swim. This is a very crowded beach with lots of activity.

Dunno specifically about the Hilton beach, the corridor hotels I've stayed at usually had a small beach in front but usually rocky (or for sure more rocky than Medano). One advantage of the corridor beaches is the absence of vendors though, they can be a real pest on Medano.

Most people swim in the hotel pools, which tend to be large and luxurious.

There are two taxi companies and they are tightly regulated, with fixed prices between downtown and specific hotels. There are none of the gypsy cabs you sometimes hear about in large cities where you might get robbed, if that's your concern.

The corridor road is not the safest road at night because so many drive it after drinking (typically gringos), but the cabs are fine.
