Cabins in Bosque del Cabo?
We are returning to Costa Rica in February 2005 and plan to stay at Bosque del Cabo, but would like suggestions on which cabin to ask for. We are two people, mom and 13 year old daughter. We would like a quiet cabin with a great view of the ocean, not too near the restaurant or other public facilities there. Any ideas?

We thought we had a nice cabin called El Sol. There were 2 double beds (that would be standard). Great view. Not too close, but not as long a walk as some of the more remote casitas. Didn't see any that looked like they were "bad" locations--except we were glad not to have to walk up the road after dark.

The Congo has the best views but if you want a little more privacy, there is one more cabina just beyond that. Problem here is that it just has a king size bed. You will most likely want a cabin with 2 beds. I have stayed in several and they were all quiet except for the early morning wake up call by the howlers LOL. They are going to be full for one whole week with a yoga group in Feb, I hope it is not the same week. We have changed our whole vacation time based on that because we went the week before yoga week last year and they were busy getting things ready and we felt that there was a little less attention paid to the current visitors and we didn't get to do a couple of the tours we wanted to. We still enjoyed ourselves but they just seemed a bit preoccupied.

We really enjoyed Mariposa. It seemed to be the most secluded, as it bordered the forest on two sides and the cliff down to the pacific on the other. About every half hour a group of monkeys (spider and howler) would pass on their way down the hill. We saw a sloth in the tree just outside the front patio, and toucans in the fruit tree next to it. The patio overlooks the ocean. The room is a queen (or king?) size bed which may not work for you...

Dear everyone, thanks so much for your advice. Your message, Jessie, explains why there aren't many choices left in February! There were no more deluxe cabins during the time we could go there, so I'm going to reserve a standard cabin for 3 nights and will ask for El Sol, shillmac. Jessie, do you know which week the yoga group will be there? We're planning to be there Feb 22-24. We live in France and I'm stuck having to work around my daughter's school holidays.

The standard cabins are by no means "shabby"! I think there are only a couple of differences. Deluxe are slightly larger with more verandah and a king sized bed. I think there are 4 standards, and any one of them would be quite nice.

Hi Emily, If the El Sol is not available we stayed in Toucan this summer and is is very nice. The location is close to the restaurant. We have been there twice and stayed in
Congo, which is very nice and also Mariposa which is next to Congo. Mariposa has one bed but it does have an outdoor bathtub. If everything is booked they might let you have Casa Blanca for the same price. This summer they were booked with a yoga group when we were there so we ended up moving three times. Have the banana pancakes with the orange syrup. We liked them so much we got the recipe. I am jealous. After four trips to Costa Rica Bosque del Cabo is still our favorite. None of the cabinas are really too near the restaurant. They are building a new restaurant and hopefully that will be done when you go. Ask Leonardo to email you a photo of your cabina if you would like. |
The yoga group will be there Feb 12-19. Departing on the 19th so that night would be available.
We had to stay out in the woods for a couple of nights one year because of the yoga group. Pretty dark out there. I live in the country and have all kinds of things hootin and hollerin all night but those are strange noises we heard down there. As best as I can tell there really isn't much difference between the standard and the deluxe other than the lighting. |
Thanks again to everyone! We've reserved a standard cabin for 4 nights and asked for El Sol but I'm reassured that the other standard cabins are great, too. The place is filling up; the only deluxe cabin with more than one bed was already booked! We'll be coming there from La Paloma, our favorite place on our last trip to Costa Rica. Can't wait to get back there. We live way out in the country here in France but there are no monkeys anywhere around here (except for the French drivers).
