Buzios, Salvador

We're planning on visiting Brazil towards the end of the month for a week.
I have a couple of questions regarding Buzios: Are cabs available from the hotels at all times, or do they stop after a certain hour? Are they expensive? Is it advisable to rent a car?

And is it true that the police in Salvador are on stike? Is the safety of tourists an issue?

Hello!

I am a frequent Brazil-traveller and maybe can help you out!

Well, as you said you are going to Buzios (which is about 180 kms far from Rio) I do not know why you are wondering about the strike in Salvador, ..cause it is very far from there.
Or dou you have another one in mind, more near to Salvador?

Well, as I have heard the police is really on strike there (in Salvador), but I thiink that till you will be there, that will not be any problem, especially not if you are going to Buzios or Rio!

Hmmm, the beaches in Buzios seamed to be a little far sometimes(it depends on where you will stay) so if you do not want to always hire a cab (taxi) of course it would be good to rent a car there, ..like that you are more individual!
But it should be no problem also (any hour of the day) to hire a cab from the hotel, ..sometimes the hotels have their own taxis ...!

If you want, you can have a look at this page:
http://www.buziosonline.com.br/
There is also an english version!

If you have further questions, please feel free to ask me by E Mail!
Greetings

Evelyn

A client of mine just returned from a trip to Buzios and stayed at the Collona Park Hotel on Praia de Joao Fernandes. It has its own beach in front of the hotel, as well as water taxis that can take you into the main area of town where all the great restaurants are located.
My client is a very discerning person and gave it rave reviews. He travels to the Rio area on business a few times a year. I would confidently be able to recommend this hotel on the basis of his review.
Just back from Brazil, I spent a couple of days in Buzios last week and liked the place. Taxis were readily available at any time (day or night).
The only question is : do you want to stay in town or find a quieter location on one of the many beaches of the Buzios peninsula?
We did not experience any safety problems in Buzios. This place has the reputation of being pretty safe, so Bresilian friends said.

Evelyn, Jill, Joelle:

Thanks much for your detailed responses.

Evelyn: We initially wanted to do both Buzios AND Salvador de Bahia - so the subject of my posting should have really said Buzios AND Salvador. Anyway, we have decided to do Buzios instead, with maybe a day or two in RDJ city.

Regards,
Vipsha

Joelle, thanks so much for your response, I am trying to figure out what days to go to Rio and Buzios, I figured Fri, Sat and Sun in Rio and Mon , Tues, wed in Buzios but I was worried that Buzios would be dead during those days but since you say it is crowded during the week, then thats fine. I am a single man going alone, my question is are there mostly couples in Buzios or are there a mixture of couples and singles, how did you see it?

Vipsha, I have been told that they rent dune buggies in buzios and bicycles for getting around plus they have water taxis and shuttles to get you from beach to beach. Personally I do not like to rent cars in foreign countries so i like to rely on the local transportation but I also read that cars are discouraged in Buzios.
