Bus from Playa del Carmen to Chichen Itza
Has anyone taken the local bus from Playa del Carmen to Chichen Itza. We (a group of eight) thought we would take the bus and stay over night at perhaps the Mayaland Hotel and wondered where the local bus stops in Chichen Itza. Thanks.

Why not fly. Your back by early afternoon, otherwise you dont get back until evening- a whole day shot. There is a small airport in Playa del Carmen, the charter is Aero Franco or something like that. We enjoyed it - the ruins are really neat from the air. I'd do it again, no way would I take the bus!

I would go with the bus option. Aero Ferinco is out of business due to a crash near the ruins which killed many Americans from a cruise ship tour. (I am told by a guide friend that this pilot had told him that the airline had long delayed essential engine repair). Fortunately, the Mexican government closed them down, but a bit too late.

did the bus tour in mar 2000. Lomas Travel. long trip but if your spending the $$ to go down you must take the time to see ruins. the ruins at Talum south of Barcelo Mayan resort all also worth a look.
len

I did the reverse route. Ovenighted in Merida, took the local bus to Uxmal. Then back to Merida to overnight. Then the next day caught a bus to the front door of Chichen Itza, spent the day, then caught a bus to Valladolid to overnight. Next day on to Cancun, then south to check out Tulum (south of Playa del Carmen).

Yes it's doable but plan on at least two days. I would image you will have to catch a bus to Cancun's downtown central bus station then switch to another West bound bus to Chichen Itza and vice-versa!

Adios!
[email protected]
www.mexicomexico.info
