Buquebus (ferry) from Buenos Aires
 

I'm unable to access the Buquebus website (buquebus.com and buquebus.com.ar with and without www.). Does anyone know if they've changed their web address or gone out of business? Is there another ferry company? I'm in the U.S. trying to arrange a trip from Buenos Aires to Colonia and Montevideo and I learned on this forum that Buquebus offers good packages. I'd like to at least know what's available before I reach B.A. in April. Also, does it make a difference whether one goes to Colonia or Montevideo first, and would it be better to spend one night in each place or both in Montevideo?

The Buqebus web site appears to be down. Try again in a day or two. If you need to make contact right away, you can phone from the U.S....

thanks for replying. i guess buquebus is still in business, so i'll try again. by the way, speaking of "dawggies", i heard that argentina is a very dog-friendly country. i've encountered many strays while traveling in spain and latin america, and i'm curious whether strays are a common sight in the B.A. area as well. i always miss my own dogs when i travel, and i always want to pet other people's dogs or bring home strays that i meet (although i can't do the latter).

I saw many more strays in Santiago, Chile than in BA, however if you like cats the Botanical Garden is full of them (and old ladies feeding them). There are many dog walkers (a full time profession)and they are quite a sight.

I'm glad there are few strays in BA. Maybe some of the dogwalkers will let me pet their dogs, though, since I'll be missing mine (both formerly strays).

The Buquebus ferry website is up as of yesterday. I can read a little Spanish but was confused... I am planning on taking the fast ferry from Montevideo to Buenos Aires... I found the times from Bs As to Montevideo but not the opposite. Also, the prices. Are they in US dollars or in Argentinian or Uruguayan (sp?) money? Any help would be appreciated.

Prices are in Arentine pesos. There are several return ferries each day.

I took the trip in late February and had the choice of returning at 7:31AM, 12:01PM or 8:01PM. It takes about 3 hours to cross from Buenos Aires to Montevideo.

Hello, I am back from Argentina and Uruguay and took the Ferry a couple of times. Check the time table most likely will vary after Eastern which marks the star of the the low season.

I just came back from Argentina and also wanted to buy the buquebus tickets at the website and wasn't working so as soon as we got there, I asked the concierge to look for the tickets... Please take at least one hour to do all the lines, tickets, payments, immigration.

Hi, Buying tickets in Buquebus is a simple thing and 9 out of 10 there is plenty of room.
(Unless it is the high, high season like the end of January or a very important holiday)
I have bought many times the tickets by phone, I found this the easiest way. By phone they take the credit card number and the ticket is waiting to be picked up the day you travel at the information booth. After that you check in +your luggage and go through inmigration authorities and that is it.

Planning on a trip to Montevideo in early July... Any advice? Also wondering about best areas to stay in BA. What is the weather like (generally speaking) at that time? Is it worth going north to Brazil vs south in Argentina?

I also ended up booking my tickets over the phone. However, when I picked up them up, I found that they were for the wrong dates. After a nerve-wracking wait, during which an agent made a series of phone calls to switch the tickets and the hotels (one of which insisted it was full, but then relented), I was on my way.

In Montevideo, I wanted to switch my ferry to an earlier time. I was going to do it by phone, reluctantly, but Buquebus had an office at Punta Carretas, so I did it there.
