buenos aires solo
 

I am an older independent, solo, traveler and am considering Buenos Aires this Winter. Any advice? Is this a safe city for an older, solo woman? What day trips? I was in Colonia, Uruguay with a research project so don't want to do that again (aside, I loved Uruguay!). I am in the early planning stages, so forgive my ignorance at this point.

Yes, SusieQQ, BA is safe, assuming you take the normal precautions you should adopt in any large town.

Anyway, you'll have a great time in our country.

Hi SusieQQ, what a great trip for you. I am an older traveler as well and I was very comfortable in Buenos Aires. The normal urban precautions apply, of course. I found the city and its residents quite charming and warm. I stayed at Loi Suites Recoleta (although there are dozens of great choices). It was the ideal location for me.

I didn't do any day trips so I cannot help you there. I do strongly encourage you to go, though. It is a wonderful place to be!

Advice: Where to stay? First time visitors normally stay in downtown, Palermo or Recoleta. Hotels, aparthotels and short stay apartments are all plentiful....in general, housing is not a screaming bargain in BA but there are a wide variety of options in various price ranges....taxis are very inexpensive in BA, so I usually decide where to stay based more on where I can get a good rate than on a specifc zone...an exception...for longer stays, I prefer Palermo because it is quieter and more residential than the other zones.. Keep in mind that Palermo is a large district and some sections are not so quiet).....



Day Trips...the most common day trips are to an estancia and to Tigre/Delta...other options are to go to the excellent animal park outside of town.....Not a day trip, but if you have a minimum of one night/two days, a trip to Iguazu Falls is highly recommende...

SusieQQ i recently did a solo visit to Bs As, though I had the benefit of the experience of several Fodorites in planning and execution. Though not female, and not sure that we define "older" the same way, I am no spring chicken but did just fine.
