Buenos Aires - Public Holiday 25 May - HELP ?
 

Hi

We are travelling to BA at the end of May and I realized that 25 May is public holiday. Can anyone tell me if the Belle Artes Museum, Malba and Buenos Aires Design will be open on this day ? As well as the small designer shops in Palermo Viejo ? I am trying to email the museums as well.

I'm not sure about those three on this particular holiday, but in general I've found that the public museums are open on holidays and, often with discounted or free admission. Still probably best to get responses direct from them.

We were in BA a couple of years ago on May 25th and suggest you plan to head to the Plaza de Mayo then.

Why ? What happens ? I thought it would be better to head for Paliermo Viejo and go designer shopping. Clearly you no something I dont ?

As far as I know Fine Art Museum will be open It is not clear if it will open morning & afternoon or only in the afternoon. But, you can visit it for sure.

The Colon Opera House will be closed.
No confirmation from the Malba.

There will be a ceremony in Plaza de Mayo. However, I would recommend you
to know about it before going. Sometimes the ceremonies come together with other type of demostrations which are not particularly recommended.

The great majority of shops will be opened in the afternoon, specially in Palermo Viejo.

About Plaza de Mayo celebration. You will enjoy your day more if you visit the city and the Plaza de Mayo on the 24th and use the 25th for Fine Art Museums or other
Unfortunately, some people will mistake a National Day for a Political Party celebration.

Go to San Antonio de Areco and enjoy a day in the country side, it will be more meaningul.

The shops in Palermo Viejo will almost certainly be open. I was in BsAs last May 25 and that area was packed with people. Everybody had the day off and decided to go shopping, I guess. I'm not sure about the museums, but I would probably avoid the Plaza de Mayo -- likely things will be fine, but no need to get stuck in the middle of a weird situation should there be political protests.

Milla was 100% correct. The demonstrations today were more of a launching pad for the reeclection of the president than a display of patriotism. Paid demonstrators from throughout the country talked about the wonderfulness of the Prez..paid for from the public treasury, of course.

No wonder Argentina is broke.
