Buenos Aires hotels Malabia house or Five

Please help us in deciding between these two places. My first choice was Bobo which is not available. We are a 40 something couple looking for a comfortable/hip experience on our first weeklong visit to BA in October. Normally we would stay in a large hotel but based on various recommendations have decided to go the hip small hotel route in BA.

Sounds like the good places are booking up fast...If you are Oct. you better choose as both seem to the place of choice remaining imo.

Malabia house is in a hip part of town, but is a rather traditional small hotel. If it is hip you want, Five will better serve your needs.

AKR1

Take a look at Casa Monserrat.
www.casa-monserrat.com

Interior of this Boutique B&B is a delight, refined and with Tango flavour, the neighbourhood is not the best one , Salta 1074 near Constitución neighbourhood.
But if you donīt mind moving w / 5/10 minutes taxi cab to downtown or Recoleta, its an excellent option.
Donīt walk alone at night in close areas

If interested contact the owner , Patricia , she a Tango expert and organizes small Tango and dancing shows once a week at the B & B.

We stayed at Malabia House and had a good stay there -- great location and helpful staff. We stayed in the front room with a wee balcony that we could sit and look at on the street. I agree that the hotel is not hip, but nonetheless it's a nice small hotel and you'll be comfortable--it definitley beats out a big hotel.

Hotel "cadera", of course!!!! LOL!!!!

More seriously, my dictionary, among many other meanings, says: "sophisticated", which I believe applies in this case.

If I am wrong, drdawggy, please help nephew santiagov with his English!!!!!

As it is commonly used in the United States hip denotes more than sophisticated...the term includes that which is "cool," "in vogue", or"stylish."

In this case, it is the contrast between a comfortable small hotel with traditional furnishings and architecture such as Malabia House....and the very contemporary architercture and furnishings found in Five. Simply put, the difference between bare concrete floors and "industrial chic" modernity and hardwood/carpet traditionality.

And I agree with the poster that either beats an impersonal large hotel!

The best place to stay is at Posada Palmero - the price and neighbourhoood is safe. The owner is unbelievable helpful and I have been to BA for 4 times in the last 5 years and have stayed at B & B's and Posada Palmero is the best.
