My dear Buenos Aires Shoe advisers!

Thanks to all of you for your very valuabel input! Thanks Scarlett, kmkrnn, avrooster, Rastaguytoday and susaninToronto! You've made my day

Last night after posting here, and out of quiet desperation, I impulsively ordered a pair of J-41 Continental (in black) from Zappos - here's a picture:

ww.zappos.com/n/multi_view.cgi?product_id=7334321&color_id=3&a mp;view=multi&ref=multi-pic

A sporty wedge style and promise to provide good arch support. They also arrived this afternoon, and they are very comfortable, and super cute in real life! I might be all sweaty in enclosed toes, but since I've read about the rather dirty sidewalks littered with dog waste....

I also looked at the Tevo's and SAS shoes. I could order the TEvo's still tomorrow via Zappos, but the SAS will take too long.
Scarlett mentioned in this string that espadrilles are popular. Are they affordable and readily available in BA? If so, they would serve me well as a second pair, since I always think espadrilles are so overpriced here in the USA.

I cannot wait to bask in the beauty of heavenly Buenos Aires!!

I'm also a fairly strict piscerian. Would you know of an excellent fish restaurant in BA? I grew up on the East Coast of South Africa and miss the giant langoustines!!

Thanks again for your great replies!

This is the early bird again, caracv!

I researched your seafood question and this is what I found:
http://www.guiaoleo.com.ar/list.php?...&srch=TRUE
rates Nemo as pretty good for fish and seafood.

I haven't been there, because I like our meat, but this review indicates it is pretty good:

For grilled fish, I usually suggest Fervor http://www.fervorbrasas.com.ar/

The best Spanish restaurant in town is Oviedo and this is their seafood: http://www.oviedoresto.com.ar/lacart..._Menu=Mariscos

Espadrilles are everywhere, in all shapes colors and forms. There was even an article in the BA Herald about Carrefours (supermarket) selling them .
Shoes , overall, are inexpensive here.. of course, if you are lucky like I am, you will find that the only ones that fit perfectly are the most expensive lol
Pointy toed high heels and ballet flats and those strange shoes with toes, all co-exist peacefully on the Avenues.. just look for comfort and shop when you are here for fun.

We don't eat red meat and I find that no matter where we go, there are great fish choices and plenty of options.

From the Rodi Bar with their Salmon Rosada with blue cheese sauce ( everyone weeps over how good it is- I hate blue cheese so I take their word for it) and the grilled salmon or filets de merluza a la romana ..

to Wonderful places like Oviedo... everywhere you go, there is usually a fish dish on the menu.

I have binges where I only eat fish then it will only be pasta... I find something wherever I go to keep me happy.
Then there are the ethnic places that are good and still different from the ethnic places in the US.. like Chinese or Thai or Indian.

Finding something to eat is not difficult here.. then remember, after your morning cafe con leche and medialuna, you will want a late morning cafe cortado and maybe a little cookie... then lunch can be as little as a medialuna with cheese ( a tiny lovely grilled cheese sandwich) or a big salad with all sorts of grilled veggies tossed in... to a late afternoon cafe y dulce stop then dinner ... around 9 or 10 pm..

One of the best sites for restaurant talk and reviews is from Dan, www.saltshaker.net
He is a restaurant owner, chef, reviewer and just a nice man

Thanks again Scarlet and avrooster for the fantastic restaurant choices you provided. I've researched all of them and made a note of their addresses. We're packing today and will be in your magic city on Tuesday (fly on Monday).

Just one last question. My husband has some cousins living in BA. He's never met them, and has only corresponded with them since last week. What can we buy them as a nice gift? They are in their forties and will also meet us at the airport and take us to our Palermo apartment. Maybe an electronic device like an apple shuffle? Or something useful? Chocolates? Books? Anyone with some advice?

Thanks for this fantastic Forum!!

Well, I don't know your cousins, so it's hard to tell, but electronics are much more expensive here than in the US, so that might be a good idea.

BTW, I'd bring them unwrapped, JIC our customs get bothersome.

Have a great time in our town, with your hubby, Simbax!

iPods would be great, there is an Apple store here but things are as you know, pricier here.
There are many wonderful book stores and chocolates here, that would depend mostly on if they cannot get something here that they would like..
Music CDs might work too.. they have many music stores but they might enjoy a CD that might be very expensive here (which is not in the US) We are very happy that we brought our collection with us when we moved here, anything imported including CDs and DVDs are expensive.
