Buenos Aires accommodations

We are traveling with my 3 adult (ages 25,28,30)children to BA during Christmas. We currently have rooms reserved at the Hilton. (partly covered by miles)
It has been suggested we might prefer the Recoleta area so I have started investigating apartment rentals.
From forums and readings it looks like Recoleta might be more of what we are looking for. Any suggestions?

If you search for Buenos Aires apartments on this forum you will get several posts. I used and based on my very positive experience recommend www.bytargenina.com, as do several others.

While it is gratifying to use miles, I definitly agree that staying in an apartment brings a lot to a family trip. The atmosphere will much more 'familiar' and meals are private. Also, in a hotel there is a lot of running between rooms, calling and coordinating which can be a headache.

My mother is currently visiting in Buenos Aires and I have her staying in this apt: http://www.buenosairesstay.com/basta...mp;carpeta=ing

She is loving it and reports to me that even though she is staying alone, she feels it makes her feel more 'at home' than she did at the hotel she stayed in a few years ago. She also booked some tours with this agency and consulted with the sales agents on things to do around town. Why she didnt consult me I dont know! But she has been very pleased with the service.

Thanks everyone but what about neighborhoods--Recoleta, palermo, Palermo Hollywood and Zona Norte? am I missing one or should I avoid one of these? what order?
Is one better for walking around at night?

Cynja,

I am also looking for a place to stay and I browsed the Buenos Aires Stay site and they have many pages of information on the different neighborhoods http://www.buenosairesstay.com/basta...mp;codbarrio=3

- also, the government site is very helpful - www.bue.gov.ar .

Cynja - From what I am reading it looks like Palermo is where the "cool" young crowd is - Hollywood is seems more fashion based while Soho seems more bohemian. My rental agent says they are both safe at night. I am in the middle of booking a flat there - will let you know how it goes.

I plan to rent an apartment, in Recoleta, from buenosaireshabitat.com. I just got my frequent flyer award ticket issued this past weekend for the end of summer 2009. I've been researching and taking notes on apartment companies for over a year now. Happy Travels!

Apartment rentals are nice, but if I could have afforded it I would have loved to stay at the Hilton. Awesome location (right on Puerto Madero), beautiful facility, and within reasonable walking distance to Recoleta.
