Bueno Aires-which area for your hotel?
 

We are leaving next week for BA and I am frantically trying to find a hotel for 3 of us sharing a room that might possibly be under $100USD in a decent area. I am torn between the MICROCENTRO or the RECOLETA area.I want something that is easily in an area of useful public transportation or availablity for walking (I need a total knee replacement so am having some problems!).I am looking on Tripadvisor and this forum and cannot seem to find something that isn't an arm and leg or isn't in the middle of nowhere. Also, for those who have gone to BA-was it worth the cost and effort to take the ferry over to Colonia? Thanks for your help-

Just now looking for a hotel that price might be very difficult..you might have to look in different neighborhoods.
Try Palermo hotels, Recoleta (I think) is a much higher priced area..MicroCentro seems to have a lot of big chain hotels but I am not sure the prices are much better.
If you have a map, you can see where the subte lines are, you can try to find a place using that, Recoleta does not have a subte stop, from what I gathered.
Be aware that the sidewalks in Buenos Aires are pretty bad in areas, you have to be aware every step so as not to trip and fall..( not to mention dog droppings in some areas)
Lucky for you, taxis are cheap, you can get all over town for about $2-3 USD...

We paid less because we were there for 2 weeks but the prices were very good and they were definitely comfortable for 3 people.

Oh, we were going to Colonia for the day then decided not to as we were enjoying ourselves so much in BA that we did not want to leave for even a day.

Thanks Scarlett for your help. I was over on tripadvisor and they are offering"discount hotel rates" as $265 and up? Now that my husband is not going-its just myself with the two kids so I figured that it would be easier to get a triple and use the money for meals,transportation and a possible sidetrip. I am getting very excited about going there and have really enjoyed reading up on BA. Appreciate your help!

The ArtSuites site shows $165- for an executive suite..
I will look for the thread where I asked for hotel help, there were lots of good names and ideas..

If you are staying a week or more and are having problems finding a suitable hotel, you could consider renting an apartment. For $500 or even alot less you could get something suitable for 3.

Many people report good experiences from BYTArgentina.

As for location - its a personal preference. For a first time visitor, the Microcentre could be more convenient. However, areas like Recoleta and Palermo have a different flavour.

Not sure what class of hotel you are looking for, but for a basic hotel in Barrio Norte you could check out the Juncal Palace.

You already know my opinion that the fast ferry to Colonia, UR was a total waste of time and money: in AR Pesos, taxi was $16. + tip each way; ferry was $209.+ $10.rt visa; 8+ hours.
Great inexpensive meals are so readily available throughout the city, I would not be concerned about a few extra USDs spent on lodging.
We loved Palermo Soho, but are in good walking shape from our hill climbing life here at our 6800 ft 4 story house. Paid $100.(2 nights)-$120.(4 nights) for the two rooms at Hot Bobo in late Oct.

It seems that alot of the hotels and apartments that could hold 3 persons are full. Right now, I have the(stop laughing?) Holiday Inn Express in Microcentro for $165 a night for 3 with buffet breakfast or I can have the Hotel Plaza Roma(Lavelle 110) for $70 for a triple(found in Moon books and Lonely Planet). Is a hotel that is located across from the Luna stadium that is $70 a night going to be a dive?
Also-how many days would you spend in Buenos Aires if you were going to stay just in the city? What top 2 daytrips would you do? Thanks-I am in desperation mode here so appreciate any help!

My hunch is to steer away from that Hotel Plaza Roma, but it's just a hunch. Does it have A/C?

The art suites is an apartment hotel may be they have better accomodations for three. Its location in the Recoleta area is good.
