Budget/Moderate AI with Best Food
Hi,
I posted this question on the islands board as well. I am considering a last minute getaway with one son (the rest of the family is off to Speed Week) in August. Good food is really important to me, but we are on something of a budget. Are there any AI's that stress the quality, not the quantity of food? A good beach is nice too. Have been to Barbados and Bermuda, but we can go anywhere that we can reach from IAD. Any suggestions? I have been searching this forum for a while, but the combination of budget and good food doesn't jump out. Thanks for any thoughts.:D |
Do you have to stay at an all-inclusive? There are lots of reasonably priced samller hotels in Playa del Carmen, some right on the beach. The food in town is very good, and can be very cheap, as long as you're willing to venture off the main drag a few blocks.
Or, go to Isla Mujeres. Very cheap and absolutely wonderful food. Lots of hotels for under $100.00 a night. |
Same for Puerto Vallarta (El Centro or on the south-side). Hotels under $100/night and an amazing assortment of excellent restaurants.
There are a few budget/moderate all-inclusives in that same area but, no, they are not known for great food. |
Are you looking for ANYWHERE in Latin America? I didn't see any restrictions in your post so wanted to be sure.

pretty much anywhere, as long as there is a beach, and maybe some other kids for my son (12 yrs old), and decent food for me. I look forward to going somewhere new.

You might want to check the weather? August is hot, humid, and rainy season in many coastal areas of Mexico.

very good point, thanks. This has me leaning towards a Caribbean island, rather than the mainland for now. Am I correct in thinking that it might be cooler on the islands. I might go further south (st Kitts and down) to avoid hurricanes as well.
