Bs As hotels - please help a honeymooner : )
 

Good afternoon - I have read through tons of the suggestions listed here and done a lot of outside research as well. I've narrowed down my choices to a few different places and was hoping some might be able to weigh in on which they would choose. We are both in our mid/late 20's and looking for something fun but also luxurious. This is our first time to South America and would prefer a full service hotel.

1. Marriott Plaza Hotel
2. Four Seasons
3. Faena Hotel and Universe

Are any especially nicer or in a better location in terms of shopping, nightlife and restaurants?

One last question - if you could recommend one BA restaurant for a special occasion meal (any price range) what would it be?

I accidentally left off my 4th hotel choice - The Sofitel

I feel the Plaza is at least a notch below the others you mention.

I would not stay there, but the Faena could be right for younger people like yourselves.

avrooster - i have looked at a bunch of the smaller hotels but i think bc my travel companion prefers larger properties that are more well rounded i will have to defer to his preference ;)

Oh - in terms of food - we are open to anything. Most interested in a place w/ great tastes and a nice local flavor if that makes sense.

It is hard to choose personally I prefer the Four Seasons for their excellent service. They make a point of it and it shows.
However the Hyatt is new and is very nice, and the Faena is located in an old building that I believe was some kind of factory>? decoration there is daring some kind of
Phillip Stark.

Faena is superfly for the young jetset. Congrats!

The Marriott is a couple steps down from your other options. When are you going? The FS and Faena have great outdoor pool areas. The Park Hyatt does not. Have fun.

We stayed at the Sofitel near the Recoleta about a year+ ago and loved the hotel. Great location, nice restaurant with excellent breakfast etc. Terrific friendly staff.
Reminds me of Provence does Ritz Carlton with less formality. I think it is one of our favorite hotels.
To give you some prospective on our tastes, other favorites have been the Lungarno suites in Florence, Four Seasons Maui, and Casa Delfino in Chania, Crete.
The Four Seasons in BA also looks quite nice but we have not stayed there. We did go see a Tango show at the Faena and looked around. It is young and flashy. Think of a W hotel on steroids and you will get the picture.
Location of the Faena is safe but a bit out of the way.
Do not think of the Marriott in the some class as your other hotels. Congrats and have a great HM!

I can't pretend to have extensive experience, as we had only 3 nights in Buenos Aires (got back yesterday) and, being very tired from 3 weeks visiting Antarctica, we didn't do BA justice.

However, we did have dinner (twice) at Don Julio, in Palermo, and very much enjoyed it. The food was absolutely excellent and well-priced. The service was very warm and also helpful. And most of those sharing the evenings with us were clearly local portenos, with a small smattering of tourists, as Don Julio is firmly in the guide books, at least in Time Out as well as the many thumbs up for it I received here and on other travel boards.

I would choose the Four Seasons from this list, but would much more prefer the Hyatt.
The Faena is very nice, very trendy but I think being in the middle of town would be more fun for you.. being on Puerto Madero would require many taxi rides and other than expensive restaurants along the waterfront, and a few hotels.. the area is mostly huge brand new highrises .. kinda of sterile .

In terms of nice locations.. my favorite ( and yes, I stayed here when we visited and we live here now) is Recoleta. The parks, the tourist attractions, museums and nice cafes and restaurants not to mention some very nice shopping, make it a good choice.

Palermo is young and has a lot of bars, clubs and trendy restaurants also.. but you can stay in Recoleta and go to Palermo anytime.. we do it all the time.. they are just big neighborhoods .

A special occasion meal in BA is difficult, there are so many good places..
A new trendy place opened in Recoleta called Fervor.
There is Oviedo, Nectarine and in San Telmo there is Amici Miei .. gee, there are so many good places..
The Puerto Madero Sottovocce has a nice view ..

Palermo Viejo and Soho are my favorite shopping areas.. outside of Recoleta.

I am happy to agree with Scarlet, we have chosen the Four Seasons for different reasons, location and service. Also the fact that they have a pool helps if it is Summer time.

I agree with Scarlet, more is in reach from the 4Seasons
one day you might like to go to the Faena and have a drink or go to its night club but near the 4 Four seasons you have tons of things to do.

The fact that the 4 Seasons offers consistently excellent service in all its hotels is a big plus no matter where you are in the world.

i think we have narrowed down to the Four Seasons and the Sofitel -- i think we will just see where we can get a better rate!

I got very good rates at the Four Seasons through Wow Argentina, I hope it helps. We worked out a good deal with one dinner included and other freebes. Good luck.
