Bring your own beach towel to Costa Rica?
I am starting to think about packing and want to pack light. Travelling first week in April, anyone know how cool or hot? Pack wool sweater? Polertec? Sweatshirt sufficient? Please advise, I know I have seen packing list links, but not sure about these things. Bugs bad in beginning of April, rain? Please advise... thanks

I haven't gone yet- going in June. But I've been advised that if going to high altitudes in rain forests bring a good rainsuit that packs small, and at least a fleece. Also I was advised to bring Teva type shoes for short hikes because your tennis shoes or hiking shoes will be drenched.
Otherwise people say you're in a bathingsuit the entire time so you don't need that many clothes.
Good luck!

I don't know about the bathing suit part. You might want one on if you are hiking to a waterfall where you can swim or if going rafting. If you are staying in Montezuma or Jaco or some other little beach town possibly a bathing suit could be worn most of the time. I worry about the bugs biting my feet if I am in sandals in the rainforest.
Rule of thumb, the higher you will be the cooler you will be. Monteverde can be quite cool at times although April is pretty warm and dry there. So much depends on where you will be. If you aren't going to be up in the mountains then you might just want a light sweatshirt.
As far as a towel. I never pack one but do always have a sarong. It doubles as a beach blanket and or towel for me. A lot lighter and takes up less room than a towel. If you are going to be in a budget hotel you probably will need to bring something if you are going to the beach. A pair of running shoes with good tread is good for hiking.
Always have bug repellant, suntan lotion, and a small flashlight. A light rainjacket won't hurt to have but you may not need it.

I took oldish beach towels for our family of four with us and they were not needed as Si
Como No in MA provided them at the pool and as you left the hotel to go to the beach. I left the towels and other things for the maid (magazines, some wine, some rum, half used sunscreens etc etc) at the hotel (she had me write a note to management accounting for everything I left her so there wouldn't be an misunderstanding). The room that the stuff took up on the way down was handy for things we picked up while we were there and Rosa appreciated the goodies in addition to her cash tip.
