Breakfast in Monteverde?

We are booking Fonda Vela through GaiaLink and are quoted a price of $48 for breakfast for 4.

Any advice.....can we walk to a simple bakery/coffee shop, we won't have a car.

Does anyone know what the open menu is like at Fonda Vela....can you just order a muffin or cereal...I'd like to avoid the almost $100 for 2 brkts, we don't need huge amounts of food.

We're booking today, so if anyone has fast advice I'd be so grateful.

I stayed at the Fonda Vela and it was a FANTASTIC place especially the Jr. Suite. I however did not eat there.

I took cabs into the city and ate there. Food in Monteverde is a bit more expensive than Arenal and cheaper than Manuel Antonio.

You will love Monteverde. Have a great trip.

Lair, did you like that bakery in MV? I thought it was HORRIBLE!!! The pasteries were so dry.

Unless something has changed drastically in the past year, the restaurant at the Fonda Vela is excellent. The buffet breakfast was included in our room rate, but it was a special offer.

A year ago, there wasn't anything within reasonable walking distance to just get something simple to eat. If you don't want to pay for the hotel breakfast, wait until you're ready to start your day. As pointed out above, cabs are cheap. Or get some groceries on the way to the hotel--there was a refrigerator in our junior suite.

We weren't especially impressed with Stella's either. So-so pastries (though maybe they are great compared to other places in CR). Friendly but not especially competent service. Maybe we hit them on a bad day.

Should have pointed out that it was a small refrig.

Hi Danny-
I'm not sure where Fonda Vela is in Monteverde. We stayed at El Sapo Durado. We had a car and drove to Stella's. We went there twice and both times enjoyed a great breakfast. The atmosphere was very causal and inviting. Enjoy Monteverde!

Are there two Stellas? The one we were at was nothing to shout about.
