I first off want to thank everyone for recommending this fabulous place!! That is by far the nicest and most romantic place I have ever been in all of my travels. Everything from the food to the staff was superb. We stayed in the garden cabina the entire time and loved it. Apparently it's not the most popular, which I can't believe. The wildlife right on our front door was fantastic, and so private as well. The only thing I would say negative is that on the hiking trails I got eaten alive by mosquitos, and would recommend something with a very high deet level in it. Skintastic didn't cut it! We'll be back though!!!!!

Thanks for the report on BDC. I will be there for four nights in August and am looking forward to it. This board is what convinced me to go there!Any advice on what to plan to do or just wing it? Thanks. B.

Wow - that really surprises me about the mosquitos. We have been there twice and are returning in August and have never even had one mosquito bite. The only thing we had the first year were a few no-see-ums (sp?) at the beach. We were always there in last July and early Aug. Wonder if it has anything to do with the time you were there?

Fae - how was the weather at Bosque last August? Just wondering cause some family will be making a trip to CR last of July/beg of August. I'd love for them to see the Osa, but thought maybe the weather might be TOO wet/severe. Know some of the lodges down there even close for some of the rainiest months. Interested in knowing how it was for you! thanks.

Panama Canal will seem REALLY impressive if you read David McCullough's detailed treatise on its construction "A Path Between the Seas." We both waded through it before we went down there and were glad we had. Canal is an amazing feat of engineering - esp as previous poster said when you consider how long ago it was built. Concrete was NEW!

Glover - the following i found on Lapa Rios' website when we went on our first trip to the Osa. Lapa Rios' is just up the road from Bosque del Cabo:

The 15th of July is the middle of a usually occurring 6 week mini-dry season. It's called canicula in Spanish and though it is not guaranteed to be rain free the possibility of rain during this time is much less than the rest of the green season. Half of June and half of August are usually included in this period.

We found the above to be true both of our trips to the Osa - very little rain either time. We have been able to as much hiking, tours, etc. as we have ever wanted to.
