Joe, looks like you hit the jackpot in that video. Love the Horned Lizard. Hopefully, you will get some great video at BDC.

Milliebz, just about every photo from BDC was taken with a 70-300mm VR lens. It is a great lens for the rainforest.

That was cool - it gave me the creeps a little bit, but wow, it's a pretty amazing video! I can't wait to hear what you discover while you're there.

That was AWESOME!!! You are truely going to have the best time!! You may want to ask the driver that picks you up from Puerto Jimenez airport if he will take you to the place in Puerto Jimenez were all the crocodiles (or maybe Caiman) live. It is located behind a small resort jst a block or 2 from the airport and you can walk back by the water and they are everywhere. You could get some great video. Trino took my husband and I to this place and I think he is the one who usually picks people up.

I hope you follow up with some pics from your stay at Bosque del Cabo.

My girlfriend and I are headed that way in June and I have the same plans as you... SNAKES, SNAKES, SNAKES!!!

Best of luck and keep us posted!

My husband, son and I are going to Bosque del Cabo in about a month, and I'll confess that reading about guest encounters with snakes and scorpions on this board is making me a little skittish, particularly because my son doesn't always tread softly when we are in the wild. In fact, it sounds like the house we will be staying in -- Casa Miramar -- may not have screens on the windows. I hope to find a way to be cool, calm and collected about this, because I really want to enjoy the wildlife and being immersed in the wilderness! I would love advice about overcoming these fears. Any tips from those of you who are more seasoned?

b, we didn't see a single one while we were there. What they told us is that snakes don't want to see you any more than you want to see them. Always look where you're putting your hands and feet, don't stray off the trails, etc. BdC is a wonderful, beautiful place. I had some of your same fears, but I loved it.

baloney you are correct, there are no screens at Casa Miramar. You can see my pics from last June here: http://picasaweb.google.com/sheva07/...at=directlink# and my trip report here: http://www.fodors.com/community/mexi...-del-cabo.cfm#

It definitely is more open than what I'm used to but you really do adjust after a day there. Just little things to keep in mind - make sure all your food is well locked up, the coatis know the house has food and will find it, no matter how well you've hidden it, so always make sure the fridge is locked. I'd make sure you all have flip-flops to wear around the house, we did come across 2 scorpions (1 very tiny) and they are hard to see, so better to be safe. There are usually many of the golden orb spiders and their webs all over the house on the outside, but they really seem to stay in their webs all the time and won't bother you, so a little freaky at first but they are harmless. Make sure you each have a good flashlight, very important.

You will have a great time, it really is a beautiful house in a beautiful spot. We had plenty of time out on that deck pondering what trail or what we would do next and often just kept pondering!r The view, and the wildlife you see from there, is mesmeizing. Plus the pool is great for cooling off.

Baloney, I absolutely hate snakes, but have been to Bosque twice and loved it. There are so many other things to see and enjoy, you won't be concentrating on the things you don't want to see. Just follow volcanogirl's advice about staying on trails and watching where you put your hands and feet. Have fun!

This is such a nice forum. Thanks again for everyone's feedback and well-wishes! Thanks Alan, Volcanogirl, susie, and ryan for the compliments on the vid... just a bit of random summer footage slapped together!

Alan, I owe you another email, plus I told you one of the frog ID's wrong! I'll get back with you soon...

Ryan and volcanogirl, I'll definitely put up some photos and a vid of what I see!!

Susierah, that is a fantastic suggestion!!! I really want to see crocs and i know they aren't on bosque's grounds, so I'll probably try to go see those that you mentioned! Thanks for the tip!

baloney, you guys will all be fine...

baloney, I avoided the night hike specifically because I thought it would freak me out knowing "what was out there" - but I ended up doing one someplace else and loved it.

Just a FYI, and I will make a new thread about this as well, but since we're talking snakes......Animal Planet has a show called Wild Recon. The Tues, 02/23 show (9pm ET), is focused all on CR and his speciality seems to be snakes, so may be a good one to catch.

I second susierah's suggestion. That little area near Puerto Jimenez is a fantastic spot for crocs and caimans--and some bird specied as well. We saw lots of cattle egrets nesting--it was pretty cool, right there with the caimans practically at our feet! I was keeping one eye in the water and the other in the trees!

baloney -- Yes no screens at Miramar - in fact completely open to the elements ESPECIALLY the bathrooms. Don't worry, only came across a couple scorpions there. ;-)

Okay, hipvirgochick, since you have just rattled me with that one, what is the best thing to do if I encounter a scorpion in our room or bathroom? (I'm allergic to spiders, so my fears aren't completely irrational!)

I'm so naughty -- I'm sorry! Have your hubby collect in a glass and toss as far as possible down the ridge. Keep things zipped and check your shoes. ;-)

Yes, keep all your luggage zipped up and keep a headlamp or flashlight by the night stand in case you need to get up during the night. I always did a quick scan of the floor and kept flip flops handy. hip, you're incorrigible!
