Bosque del Cabo - Cabina Babmu question

I just found out that we are staying in a standard cabina called "Bambu." Does anyone have any feedback or pictures of this Cabina?

I also was advised that there was a 110 volt outlet in that cabin. Do I need a special converter for charging batteries? Any help would be appreciated.

Suzie2 Apr 16th, 2007 10:47 AM

Don't have any pictures but we did stay there. The room is nice and has 2 double beds. The bathroom was okay. Not what I was used to in the deluxe cabinas. No real concerns such as mold or dirt or anything. There isn't a view of the ocean or at least not much of one. The one really great thing about that cabina as well as the others right there is that the birds are wonderful. The Scarlet macaws seem to really like it around there. We asked for that cabina specifically because of the macaws. It shares the same common ground area as the other cabinas-standard and deluxe- and is a short walk to the pool, restaurant etc.

You don't need a converter in Costa Rica.

I have quite a few pictures of Bosque and the cabinas in my Here and there pics posting, I'll try to bring it up. The standard cabinas all seem to be made of wood. I think there is one deluxe that is as well.

Mixter603 Apr 16th, 2007 10:51 AM

Not sure if you're able to charge your batteries in your room. You might want to check with Gerly at the front desk when you arrive.

When are you going? I'm so jealous.

Moonpie Apr 16th, 2007 10:56 AM

Thanks Suze,

Do you think that I should check for any cancellations for the deluxe Cabinas? At the time of booking there were no deluxe cabinas without moving around every few days. I would love to see the Macaws, but I am slightly disappointed that there will be no ocean view! Can't have it all I guess.

Moonpie Apr 16th, 2007 11:05 AM

Mixter,

We are going April 22nd - 29th. Staying at the Orquideas Inn for one night then BdC for 6 nights. I can't wait!

I received an email from Leonardo that stated batteries were able to be charged in the cabina. We'll see...it's not a huge deal anyway. I'll post a report when I return.

Suzie2 Apr 16th, 2007 11:39 AM

We were able to charge our batteries in the room last time. We used to have to do it in the office.

The other standards did seem to have an ocean view. Bambu is set back a little ways on the very end.

As far as asking about an opening for a deluxe, you could ask about it for at least a couple of nights at the end rather than hopping around the whole time. You might get lucky.

Bosque is a little piece of heaven no matter which cabin or house you are in.

Won't be long now!! Don't forget the flashlight!!!!!.

I don't get to go until the end of June :-(.

haydencat Apr 16th, 2007 04:41 PM

Hi Moonpie. Our little group is occupying Congo and Lapa from the 25th-29th at BdC. We'll be looking out for you. Can't wait! :-)

shillmac Apr 16th, 2007 05:29 PM

We liked the standard cabinas almost as much as the deluxe. In fact, (I've raved about this too many times, I think) El Sol standard has one of the nicest views from the shower of any of the cabinas, deluxe or standard. Perhaps you could request a different standard? Are they all full as well?

The feature I like most about the deluxe cabinas is their closer proximity to the dining/pool/bar area for shorter walking distances after dark. Except for Mariposa. . .I still chuckle when thinking of Tully racing in the dark with those imaginary wild things right behind her. I'm sure I'll be doing the same thing when I'm alone there in July, trotting back to my cabina in the dark!

By the way, we were NOT able to charge our batteries for our camera in the cabina, Lapa. We charged them at the bar. Guess it just depends on the charger, perhaps?

Moonpie Apr 16th, 2007 05:32 PM

Suzie - Thanks for all the info. I emailed BdC and checked for any cancellations. I haven't heard back yet. I'm sure that we can't go wrong either way.

Haydencat - I can't wait - the weather in upstate NY is horrible. I'm looking foward to warming my bones in the Costa Rican Rain Forest. See you soon.

Moonpie Apr 16th, 2007 05:41 PM

Shillmac,

I think we will be happy with any cabina. We usually don't spend much time in our room anyway. Truthfully, my husband has little idea about where we are going. He trusts me to arrange all vacation details and just goes along for the ride. I have a feeling that this will be our best vacation ever!

Thank you so much for your wealth of information, it has been most helpful.

shillmac Apr 16th, 2007 06:03 PM

Same with us, Moonpie. I arrange, he enjoys. He always thanks me at the end of each trip, but truthfully it's not so much my planning as it is the destination!

tully Apr 16th, 2007 07:14 PM

Hey no chuckling at my expense! Just wait til you have to walk back to Marisposa alone, after a drink or three, in the pitch black and you hear that crack in the forest on your left. It was probably something tiny, like a kinkajou but hey noise, and my imagination, carries!

As mentioned, it probably varies on the battery charger. I saw a couple people charging them at the bar or of course you can just leave them in the office as well.

hayden - since you will be in lapa not too long before me, please clean out all creepy crawly thingies porfa ;)

haydencat Apr 16th, 2007 08:51 PM

Moonpie - I just wanted to let you know my real name is Becky. I'd hate for you to be wandering around BdC looking for a strange person named "haydencat." Hayden is my cat's name, and he's not coming along. ;-)

Tully, I'll try to clean out all the creepy crawlies for you in Lapa, although I'm still firmly in denial that I'll even encounter any!

Moonpie Apr 17th, 2007 04:25 AM

Tully - My imagination tends to get the best of me as well. We had a "visitor" in our room in Jamaica recently, so I am easily freaked out. I'm going to try and not scream like a school girl if I do encounter any critters in my Cabina!

Haydencat - I tried to email you once at a yahoo address that I found somewhere on this forum. Maybe you didn't get it? Anyway, my email is [email protected]. Moonpie was a nickname of my dearly departed Basset Hound. Send me an email.

Suzie2 Apr 17th, 2007 09:38 AM

AWWW. A friend of ours has a Bassett. Named her Freckles. She is the sweetest thing. She thinks she is a lap dog. She knows to check my pockets for treats when I visit.

Except for dodging the crabs that gather around the walkway sometimes I haven't seen much in the way of critters in the cabinas. We sleep with the doors open too.

Moonpie Apr 17th, 2007 10:22 AM

Suzie,

Leonardo just sent me some pictures of "Bambu." Maybe the pictures are deceiving, but it looks as if there is a nice ocean view. No luck on any deluxe cabina cancellations. Oh well, Bambu will do nicely anyway.

Basset Hounds Rule! I still have one Basset named Cooper. He is quite a character.

It's nice to know that you have never has problems with critters. I can defintely deal with crabs. I'm just a little freaked by insects/spiders. I admire them from a safe distance!

haydencat Apr 17th, 2007 11:24 AM

Moonpie, I never got your e-mail, sorry! I'll send you an e-mail today and we'll exchange info. See you soon!

parrmt Apr 17th, 2007 03:38 PM

Oh Moonpie,
I just read your post to my hubby about your hubby being along for the ride. We are laughing, that is us to a tee. I always say he saves , I plan and he just goes where I go. And he always says it is so great. My name is Toni and when we arrive , they are always looking for Mr. Toni or Senor Toni. (Since I make all the reservations.)
That has become an inside family joke.
I will tell you that on our trips to CR, he says we can never top it. The trip to BdC was beyond all of our expectations. I really earned points on that one!

We recently lost our Granddog Lucy, our beloved Bassett. She grew up w\our 2 labs and always thought she was a Lab. We called her our "Bassetor Retriever."

Have a great time, we will be waiting for your report!

Moonpie Apr 17th, 2007 05:09 PM

Parrmt,

Funny, My hubby is at work and I just read him your post. He usually becomes inquisitive about details a week before our vacation...too late for any changes. At that point I have spent countless hours of research and planning. I know you feel my pain!

Sorry, about Lucy. I know how hard it is to lose a Moonpie(Harvey). I can't live without a Basset. Cooper is my third. I have never seen such a handsome clown! He makes me laugh everyday.

I am really getting interested in this place called Bosque del Cabo that you are all raving about. Honestly, are there screens on the windows and doors and do the "creepy crawlies" stay out? Are there plenty of things to do in the evening and night for a "sometimes" loud crazy group? This sounds like the best place to stay in this area, but we usually rent a whole house 'cause we are so loud and crazy. When I plan, I need to make sure there are things to do after the sun goes down to keep us all busy. The wildlife sounds fantastic in this area. MA was my most favorite place to have stayed so far just because of the abundance of wildlife. If anyone has a good web site for me to explore and learn more about this area, please share.
Thank you all. I am addicted all over again to Fodor's since I have begun to plan another excursion to Costa Rica.

welcome patams - to answer a few of your questions..
1. BdC's website is www.bosquedelcabo.com

2. Do a forum search here for trip reports - tons of them. Here is a link for my trip report and photos...
http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34951184
and
http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34967004

3. The Casa Miramar might be of interest to your group - don't know how big your group is.

4. There really isn't any evening/night activities - small bar at the pool. You make your own entertainment. You can be as loud as you want at Casa Miramar because you are more secluded from the lodge. If you are wanting more and this is really important, then you might be disappointed.

5. The doors do not have screens and can be left wide open. Most windows have screens. You do have a netting for your bed which we used not because of mosquitoes but to make sure there were no surprises in the middle of the night. You need to expect the occasional gecko and grasshopper in the room, but it won't be anything like that Expedia commercial from a year or two back.

Feel free to ask more questions.

tully Apr 18th, 2007 10:23 AM

patams, last time I was at BdC there was a large family group and they seemed to be having a fine time. They were staying in one of the houses and raved about it. They usually ate their meals with everyone else, but you could also do on your own.

There are screens on the windows and doors, the showers are outside. They are not sealed though, so once in a while little bugs get in, or an iguana (which is good as they eat the bugs!) and I even had a crab in my shower once. I think the most "oh" moment was a bushy spider in my closet about the size of an egg; other than that just mostly tiny bugs that you don't even notice after a while.

The grounds and the nature around BdC are truly outstanding, I would not go back every year if it weren't! And while there are many other places in CR that I have enjoyed a lot, or have yet, BdC to me remains the epitome of outstanding places to stay.

locolowe Apr 19th, 2007 03:37 AM

tully - which ones had screens on their doors? I looked at about 5 of them and they were just doors - no screens....

Wasn't a big deal for us, but it would be good to know.

tully Apr 19th, 2007 03:50 AM

loco - the windows have screens, the doors don't, they're just louvered, sorry if that didn't make sense.

Suzie2 Apr 19th, 2007 04:17 AM

Are they still getting those night raiders at Casa Miramar????

Tully,
Have you been having fun with deliveries? I had two 18 gal plastic containers full to the rim last time.

tully Apr 19th, 2007 10:31 AM

Suzie, actually I think I may manage with a carry on for her stuff, she's going pretty small this time (dvd's, cd's etc). I hope it'll fit as I'll feel better knowing someone in baggage won't get sticky fingers. It works out great too as her friend Alberto is meeting me to pick up the stuff at SJO and he is also the one taking me from PL to Sansa, so it'll be nice to touch base and make sure we're good to go.

fyi - told me the other day some guests went out to the the golfo and saw a whale shark! How awesome would that be? I'm hoping for the ride from PJ to Playa Nicuesa I'll spot something, excited as I've never been out there on the Golfo.

Suzie2 Apr 19th, 2007 10:50 AM

How cool!!!! We have seen lots of Dolphins, sea turtles, and iguanas swimming across. I'm sure you'll see something. Did see a whale from Congo cabina one Feb. It breeched twice and then disappeared. I thought I was seeing things because I wanted to see one so bad and then it came up a second time and my husband saw it too.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. That is supposed to be a good place to see whales from both the Northern and Southern hemisphere but in all my trips down there have only seen the one.

One more thing for you to dream about before you go. At this rate, you won't get any sleep and you'll sleep through the whole trip!

After all the other trip reports about Playa Nicuesa I am anxious to read yours too.

travelbaba Apr 19th, 2007 01:46 PM

Hi,
We are planning to stay at Bosque for 3 nights in July. The rooms we have been offered are the Pizote (which is a standard cabina) or the Vista Mar Suite, which is more of a room (not a cabina).
Can you please let me know which of these are good. Also, if you know of any other standard rooms that are good, please let me know. Thanks a lot. TB

shillmac Apr 19th, 2007 06:36 PM

El Sol, excellent. Best shower of all the cabinas, my opinion.

Suzie2 Apr 28th, 2007 01:00 PM

I would probably take Pizote just based on the fact that it is a cabin.
