Book set in Panama

I always like to read books set where I am going. And our next big trip is a Panama Canal cruise. I plan to read David McCullogh's book "Land Between the Seas", but I would also love some suggestions of fiction books set in Panama (or other ports of call - Guatemala, Costa Rica, and Columbia). Any ideas?

'The Tailor of Panama', by John le Carré.

Don't be tempted to watch the movie instead. A good illustration of why the books are often better.

Anything by Columbian author Gabriel García Márquez. A particular favorite of mine is 'Love in the Time of Cholera'.

Whatever you do, don't let any of the fiction recommended cause you to procrastinate about "Path Between the Seas" (a really big fat book after all - so you might be tempted). It's an excellent book, engaging for all - even nonengineers like me - and will enhance your trip to the canal immeasurably.

It sounds like we are on the same itinerary set for next March (Royal Caribbean).
