Bogota airport

Hello - I have an 8-hour layover at the airport beginning at 5:30 am and assume that the airport is open all night.

1. No lounge for coach travellers?

2. Any particular place at the airport that would be most comfortable?

3. Assume it's safe? Any areas to avoid?

4. Unless the food concessions accept U.S.$ or plastic, I'll pack a bit of food in my carry-on (and a few small (3-oz) bottles of water - still allowed?). Don't plan to convert my $$ since I'm going on to Lima.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Most places in El Dorado accept plastic and you can change some cash downstairs. I wouldn't suggest staying all the 8 hours in the airport as it is pretty dull and I don't know about any lounges for coach travelers. You can catch a cab into the centre easily and go to a decent restaurant and as you are in the country under a certain amount of hours you won't have to pay a departure tax. The airport is safe as well, don't worry.

El Dorado airport is old and outdated. In fact it is due to be completely torn down and rebuilt in the next couple of years... that being said, I would definitely not stay there all day. In fact you have plenty of time to go into Bogota, see the "Gold Museum" and head back after a late lunch. Just my suggestion.
