Blue Parrot 5th Avenue hotel in playa del carmen
has anybody stayed here? was planning a trip with my gf in january...the place looks right in the middle of it all...beach bar/club...all within my budget
just curious as to the noise at night?! i know there is a beach club there but i was wondering if ear plugs are needed if you stayed at the hotel? if we wanted to be in bed at 1 or 2 am would we feel like our bed is next to speakers?!?

I haven't stayed there but there have been some positive comments in this forum over the years. You can do a search to check them out.
The location is great. It's not directly on 5th Avenue (the main drag), it's on the beach, so the street noise shouldn't be too bad (there may be bar noise, I don't know for sure).

We like both the Frida/5th Ave location and the Beach Suites. MFNYC - Sorry, but it IS on 5th Ave.
There is also the beachfront Blue Parrot Suites to which MFNYC refers.
We loved staying there. It used to be the Frida hotel and bar and then the Blue Parrot bought it some years ago. The room was nicely done and contemporary. It is certainly in the middle of everything.
My DH and I stayed here and it was very cool. However, we wanted to be on the beach, so after the first night, we splurged a bit and stayed at the beach resort also. Our only drawback, we thought, was that we had to go up many stairs to get to our room, which opened out into the atrium that is the restaurant and bar. There is the bar there, but I don't recall it being busy after around 11:30 or so. I would have remembered the noise.
The Blue Parrot Suites are on the beach and they are awesome. Great spot. In either location, you will be well-cared for. Oddly, we could hear music from the beach bar at the suites and it was three buildings away. It was not loud. We could just hear it from our balcony.

A friend of mine stayed there and loved it. And the Blue Parrot bar right there is the BEST bar in Playa!! I go there practically every night each time I'm in Playa. Make sure to check out the fire show every night around 10:30 or 11:00. Awesome!
