Biking and Hiking in Costa Rica
My husband and I are planning a 10 day trip to Costa Rica in March, 2009. I am investigating organized tours, with activities such as biking and hiking.
--I am seeking recommendations for reputable tour companies.
--I am also seeking information about must see destinations and sights. This is our first trip to Costa Rica.
--I want advice about the feasibiltiy of organizing the tour on my own, and using local companies for transportation, hotels, bikes, etc..
Thanks for your help.

Are you looking for mountain bike type cycling or cruising?
There are little towns that are easy to bike around many hotels have bikes or you can rent them in town. Puerto Viejo is one that comes to mind where you can ride to many different beaches.
Companies like Rios Tropicales offer day long mountain biking, you might also look into Costa Rica Expeditions, to get some ideas, and then decide if you're comfortable planning on your own. Desafio Adventure Co. is a good company and also has some options in the Arenal area. Osa has great hiking and wildlife.
I've always planned trips on my own with help of the forums and a couple of guidebooks and you can most likely save some money doing so.

When we were in CR a couple of weeks ago, we booked our activities through our lodges. But the Fodor's guidebook to Costa Rica recommended this outfit, that you might want to look into. (I would also recommend picking up the Fodor's guide)....

There are a number of good tours
companies and lots of places to
hike and bike.
I prefer the freedom of SUV rental
carrentals.com doing my own routes
and renting mountain bikes doing
tours as I go along.
3 beautiful starter destinations
for biking and hiking.

monteverdeinfo.com hotelviandante.com
good bike rentals tours
manuelantoniopark.com
good prices on adventure tours
