between Quepos and Arenal
 

Hello...One final thing to plan for late April trip to Costa Rica. Everything is reserved except for one night...we will be driving from Quepos to Arenal and would like to break up the drive and stay somewhere overnight. There is VillaBlanca in San Ramon, but I know there are other driving routes, and I am open to suggestions. Two adults, no kids. Since it is only one night, open to anything low or high budget.
I have gotten a lot of info from this forum for our trip, and I promise to repay the favor by answering any questions I am able to upon our return. Thank you!

It's only about 4-5 hours between the two places, but if you wanted to stop (more than halfway thru) there is Villa Lapas or neta's old place AmaTierra Hotel. I haven't stayed at either so others will have to chime in there.

Hi Tully. . .I'm sending this under the radar a bit, although I'd like to post a new thread! Neta and Arbel are pregnant! They were off to Cypress to get married this weekend. Neta was determined that marriage was not to be (such a rebel she is), but with their emminent move to Canada (she has citizenship, he doesn't), they found it would smooth the way if they were married. In the meantime, voila! :)

One of the reasons they left CR was to start a family, so I'd been patiently waiting for news on that front. She said they were looking forward to having a nice relaxing weekend in a hotel owned by someone else! :)

wow that is awesome, please send her my best. Must be odd to stay at another hotel and think of all the things you would do differently or get ideas from.

Btw, I just wanted you to know I have warned Kim you were coming, lol.

okay Percy you can huddle together up there in that Arctic weather then! ;) Just kidding. Actually it's been pretty miserable here (as far as this Floridian is concerned) in FL for last 2 weeks or so, high of low 60's, no sun, gray often rainy or sprinkling. I can't even fathom temps like they're having up North right now, I would never leave my house! Stay warm you guys (and gals!)

Hello again- thank you Tully for the suggestions of Villa Lapas and Ama Tierra-and I don't know the previous owners of A.T. mentioned in subsequent posts, but congrats to them!
Any final input from anyone before I book for a night somewhere btw. Quepos & Arenal? I have read Shillmac's posts mentioning two routes, one quick, one more scenic...any locations on one of the routes that anyone would recommend for one night? I keep researching San Ramon, Orotina, LA cloud forest; after booking an entire trip, I am spinning in circles on just this one remaining night! Villa Blanca seems to be the closest to the cloud forest, but not really in it, Villa Lapas-near Orotina, and finally, Ama Tierra near Parque Turubari. Am I missing any possibilities? It is mostly easy to get one night,even at this late date, but want to lock it in soon.

I think Amatierra would be a good choice for you. Very nice hotel with excellent food (some of the best in the country, no doubt). You'd return to SJO and take the road that goes behind the airport down through Ciudad Colon and Puriscal. It will take you about 4.5 hours from Arenal. From there about 2 hours to Manuel Antonio (or 2.5). Excellent hotel. . .great place to hang out for an afternoon and relax--and break up the drive.

Not sure one of the two routes I mentioned earlier is any quicker, just the more mountainous route is more scenic perhaps.

I cannot believe some of the weather that the US is getting .
