Best time to go to Puerto Vallarta?

Is there any month(s) better to visit, weather and water temp. wise? When is it most crowded?

Also, any opinions on these resorts...Club Regina Puerto Vallarta at Westin, Club Velas Vallarta, or Grand Velas All Suites and Spa?

We want a nice place with pretty beach and good service, not excessively crowded.

Any info appreciated.

If you're looking to avoid high season, May is a great month- before the rainy season (June-Sept) but not crowded and overrun. Cheaper too. We liked the rainy season though- the storms were fabulous and it was still sunny by day.

We toured the Westin which is gorgeous- has numerous pools and lovely scenery- but the beach is not very attractive. We stayed at the Camino Real which has one of the nicest hotel beaches. Can't recommend the others.

I was at the Camino Real in March, I think it has the nicest beach that I have been to. Have gone for 15 years and stayed at a few different places, but for beach this is one that can't be beat, it is close to town, if you book the club rooms they are nicer. I have been to P.Vallarta in Jan, March, April & May and they were all nice months, April & May being a little warmer. Have a great vacation! Hey when are you going?I am going in November and again in March.

Hi, we're going in Dec. 2004. I hope the weather is nice then, not chilly. We're staying at the Mayan Palace Puerto Vallarta at the marina. It looks nice on the web. Any tips on good places to eat or must-do tours? Thanks.

November thru April temperatures are normally sunny breezy & ~low 80F. December is usually very nice. The Marina is 10-15 minutes from El Centro (downtown).

Besides recommendations you gather ahead of time, get the free tourist newspaper sometimes handed out at the airport or at shops & buy a "Vallarta Lifestyles" magazine with listings of the many restaurants in town. Stop into the Tourist Office off the main Zocalo in front of the cathedral.

To the original post: High season is approx Christmas thru Easter. It will be less crowded but still good weather just before or after these dates. Summer is the least foreign-tourist crowded but also more humid, hot, and with some rains.
