Best snorkeling for solo

I've been trying to figure out where to go in Mexico. I would be traveling solo and am interested in beach snorkeling. I thought I had it figured it out in Isla Mujeres but then I read that the snorkeling wasn't the best.

Any recommendations for great snorkeling beaches for a female solo traveler? I'm looking to relax not for a party atmosphere.

Have you looked into Cozumel? There's excellent offshore snorkeling. Most recommend the Presidente Intercontinental as a great place to stay (it was too many $ for my budget at the time I went to Cozumel). Though Cozumel has some "party" atmosphere - eg Carlos and Charlies is full of serious drinkers when the cruise ships arrive - town is pretty quiet when no ships are in. There's some Mayan ruins to visit on the island as well as Chankanab snorkel park.

If you are willing to forego Mexico, St. John's is usually at the top of the list for snorkeling/beaches/relaxation. Also Provo, Turks and Caicos near Coral Gardens - great beach and snorkeling.

Thanks Rumrita1, the Presidente is too much money and I've already been to St. John numerous times. I really wanted to give Mexico a try.

I don't know how you feel about Club Med. We're snorkeling afficionados and have done Club Med Can Cun and CM Hualtulco several times. Both quite good (tho not as good as St John-- still our favorite.) I know you keep mentioning Mexico, but what about maybe doing a sailing cruise? We've bareboated in the Virgin Islands several times, but once we also did a chartered cruise from Moorings in Granada. Spectacular snorkeling in the Grenadines, and on our boat (a 52-footer I believe), there was another couple, but also a single woman (plus capt and cook). Very fun!

Cozumel is still a good choice -- even if the Presidente is too costly. Take a look at other nice hotels on the island. The shore snorkeling is great from many public beaches there. One small inexpensive hotel -- great location on the edge of downtown is Hacienda San Miguel. They don't have a beach or pool, but the rooms are very nice as is the staff. There are lots of public beaches with pools where one can spend the day. Cozumel is also a very safe place for a lady alone. Other good choices if you want to be on the water are Coral Priness resort which is sold through many discount tour operators or hotel hot lines. You can do a "garden view" room there and still have great snorkeling, beach, pool and all the amenities right on sight.
